4.0 out of 5 stars works fine
This selector works just fine. The impedance protection is a nice feature, and it is elegantly simple. The pushbuttons and 'indicators' are manual, which is neat, actually- that means one less wall wart. No remote control, nothing fancy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Crappy Buttons!
Although there doesn't seem to be any discernable degradation to the sound quality without the Impedance Protection switched on, once the Impedance Protection has been enabled, you can notice a hit in quality. I didn't expect to have to choose between saftey and fidelity.
However, the worst thing are the buttons. I was attracted to this model because there was a...

This selector works just fine. The impedance protection is a nice feature, and it is elegantly simple. The pushbuttons and 'indicators' are manual, which is neat, actually- that means one less wall wart. No remote control, nothing fancy.

This unit also comes with a few sheets of preprinted labels- so you can put them on the front of the unit and indicate which button controls which room- there are even more obscure items than "master bedroom" or "guest bedroom"- like "cabana" and "pool house". So, if you have speakers in a cabana and poolhouse, you'll be covered.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simply works, October 4, 2006

This review is from: SIMA SSW-6 1 x 6 Speaker Selector with Impedance Protection (Electronics)
It works just fine, unlike the previous speaker selector I had. Not only that, it improved the performance of my speakers! The old selector I had was a SpeakerCraft and it really was terrible. Very difficult to use, difficult to connect wires to, and now I find out it messed up the low and high end of my speakers! When I connected this Sima selector I was very happily surprised that my speakers were better than I had known; the high and low ends are much better now.

Two caveats - the "protection" button negatively affects both the high and low end a little bit which is a bummer. I wonder how dangerous it is to use the unit without the protection button being used. You don't need it if you are just using one pair of speakers at a time, so do that without the protection as much as possible.
Also, the buttons are a bit hard to push. You have to really apply pressure. What's the point of that? If you have arthritis it might be an issue!

Bottom line: this is a good unit, and SpeakerCraft is NOT! Plus it's about 1/3 the cost of the SpeakerCraft to boot!

5.0 out of 5 stars 6 speaker selection, July 21, 2007

With neighbors close by I need lots of speakers everywhere so the main speakers do not have to be turned up loud to be heard everywhere. This 6 speaker selector solves the problem. It sits on top of the amp and is easy and convienient to switch different sets of speakers on and off. I can have all of them on at a low volume and everyone can hear in the house, the back yard, up on the deck. It is a really good deal for the money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Crappy Buttons!, September 13, 2011

Although there doesn't seem to be any discernable degradation to the sound quality without the Impedance Protection switched on, once the Impedance Protection has been enabled, you can notice a hit in quality. I didn't expect to have to choose between saftey and fidelity.
However, the worst thing are the buttons. I was attracted to this model because there was a visible display showing which buttons are depressed (ie which speakers are selected).
Firstly, the buttons feel very plasticy and of poor quality.
Secondly, the red plastic tab which is supposed to be visible or invisble according to whether a given channel is active is deplorably badly designed resulting in it being impossible to tell which speakers are active and which not - it depends which channel you look at and from which angle!
Thirdly, one of the buttons is so badly manufactured that sometimes only one of the two speakers on a given channel is activated. I have to push the button on one side, at a certain angle and with a certain degree of pressure to get music in stereo. Do youself a favour and spend a few more quid and get something decent from a manufacturer other than SIMA.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, September 5, 2008
This review is from: SIMA SSW-6 1 x 6 Speaker Selector with Impedance Protection (Electronics)
This is a great product. It works well. Easy to setup and use. The fact that it requires no power is nice. Speakers sound good hooked up the unit would never know they are hooked into a selector. Seems to be a quality unit at a great price. If you don't individual volume controls I would recommend getting this unit. Best priced unit I could find. Labels are nice to label which button controls which set of speakers. It also includes labels for rear of unit to keep track of speaker cables. I recommend this unit.

This product is exactly what it advertises. Easy to set up and use. It offers great flexability to my stero system. Would highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a cheap way to control their audio supply needs for various parts of the house, back-yard or garage.

Product very easy to install nice configuration decent terminals could be a little bigger. I had pre-wired my house while under construction, and wire used is a tad bigger than the opening on the connector terminals. Overall very pleased with the product. Mainly purchased it as a 3rd set of speakers were added outside and the old speaker selector only held 4 and needed to upgrade to handle the extra set. Well worth the money and highly reccomend.

5.0 out of 5 stars I can hook up 12 speakers!, July 31, 2008
By
This review is from: SIMA SSW-6 1 x 6 Speaker Selector with Impedance Protection (Electronics)
It was really cheap when I got it, maybe $35, a great buy. I can hook up 12 speakers and control 6 pairs. I will be using it in a low volume setting in multiple rooms so I am not worried about overloading anything.

This speaker selector works great. At a fantastic price too! Comes with a lot of stickers to label exactly what speakers you want turned on or off. I highly recommend this unit.
