Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Anti-Semitic acts and policies were a continuous policy during the long career of Joseph Stalin, according to Rapoport, writer on the Jerusalem Post. Beginning in childhood and seminary training, through his 1913 essay on the nationality question and years of leadership, Stalin found ways to persecute minority groups. The Doctor's Plot, which came to light in January 1953, is here seen as the culmination of a long campaign of persecution and terror against Jewish artists and intellectuals. This is the first work to treat the Doctor's Plot fully, placing it in the context of both Soviet history and Stalin's personal world view. Rapoport concludes that Stalin probably intended a "final solution" to the Jewish problem in the Soviet Union, including mass deportations to labor camps. A worthwhile contribution for specialists.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stalin's plans to destroy Soviet Jewry, February 8, 2008

This review is from: STALINS WAR AGAINST THE JEWS THE DOCTORS PLOT & THE SOVIET SOLUTION (The Second thoughts series) (Hardcover)
In the first full account of the Doctor's Plot, Louis Rapoport casts light on one of the darkest chapters of Soviet history, and explores the history behind these events.
In 1952 nine doctors, six of them with Jewish names were arrested ands accused of a bizarre plot to poison the Soviet leadership.
This was followed by a wave of anti-Semitic hysteria.

Attacks on Jews began to appear to appear regularly in newspapers, Jewish doctors were threatened and hounded out of their jobs, mass reprisals were threatened.
A letter was circulated among the leading Jewish cultural and political figures, demanding that for their own safety, from the 'deserved wrath of the Soviet people' the Jews be deported.
Stalin is known to have secretly hatched a plan for the Soviet Jews, a third to be liquidated, a third to be exiled to Kazakhstan and Siberia, and a third to be forced from the country.
Presiding over the plan was Lev Kaganovitch, a sinister Jewish-born Communist and Stalin's most loyal lackey, and Jewish Communist sycophant Lev Mekhlis.
Kaganovitch had more blood on his hands than practically anyone else in the Soviet Union with the exception of Stalin himself, and possibly Cheka heads Yagoda and Yezhov.
The author explores Stalin's childhood and youth, in which the hatred of Jews was hatched as well as the history of Marxist anti-Semitism.
The dissolution of all nationalities and religions was part of the bedrock of the Communist doctrine. 'But Marx, whose parents were both descended from illustrious rabbinic lines, showed particular for the Jews and for the religion that preserved them through the millenia.
"Money is the jealous God of Israel, beside which no other God may stand."
Equating the universal domination of money with the "Jewish spirit", Marx sought to throw the capitalists out of the Temple, liberating society from Judaism. Long before the alleged Jewish plot discerned by Dostoevsky and the author of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion Marx inadvertently encouraged the anti-Semitic myth that Jews controlled the world's money markets. He portrayed the Rothschild banking family as the personification of cancerous capitalism, as would countless other socialists, and in correspondence made occasional remarks of an incipiently anti-Semitic nature, as when he expressed admiration of ancient Egypt, for expelling the "nation of lepers'."

Leon Trotsky contemptuously dismissed his Jewish origin, advocating total assimilation of the Jewish people into the Soviet population.
The ruthless Jewish section of the Soviet Communist Party considered all Jewish organizations a contradiction to Marxism, and counterrevolutionary, and ruthlessly rounded up and imprisoned members of Jewish organizations, even anti-Zionist Jewish groups like the Bund. The Yevsektsia were fanatically hellbent on destroying Zionism, Judaism and the Hebrew language, within the Soviet Empire.

Nobody can deny either the prominence of Jewish Bolsheviks in the brutal Sovietization drive and mass murder of peasants in Russia, and the Ukraine.
In fact as a Jewish non-Leftist I can vouch that a Jewish left wing radical is the most ruthless and callous being on this planet, whether it comes to gentiles who stand in the way of their ideology, or fellow Jews.
Note how many extreme left diaspora Jews lead the movement to destroy Israel and murder her Jews.
Let the liquidation by Stalin of almost all Jews in the Communist Party serve as a warning that their left wing fanaticism and hatred of their own does not always serve to endear them to those whose favour they are trying to curry favour.
Stalin's pact with Hitler in 1939, involved his tacit approval of the Nazi liquidation of Jews who came under control of Nazi Germany as part of the agreement.
He also handed over thousands of German Jewish Communists, who had fled from Nazi Germany, back to the Nazis to be liquidated.
Stalin and Hitler greatly admired each other, as this book reveals, with Hitler calling Stalin a "tremendous personality, an ascetic who has taken the whole of that gigantic country firmly in his iron grip".
In 1948 hundreds of prominent Jewish cultural figures were imprisoned or executed and tens of thousands of all Jews were arrested or deported.
Other prominent Jewish figures assassinated on Stalin's orders included the famous Yiddish theatre actor Solomon Mikhoels.
In the final chapter the author reveals how Stalin's plans for the genocide of most Soviet Jews was stopped by his stroke and death coinciding with the Jewish festival of deliverance from genocide, Purim.
He outlines the refusal by Marshall Voroshilov to go along with Stalin's plans which reportedly led to Stalin suffering a stroke in his resultant rage.
This volume provides an interesting insight into the explosion of leftwing anti-Semitism and Israel-hatred we are seeing exploding around the world today.
