Excellent protection from enemies of The Federation, May 20, 2008
This review is from: STAR TREK ORIGINAL PHASER REMOTE CONTROL (Electronics)
I bought this phaser after our Klingon neighbours told me that our street was about to be annexed by the Borg and we would all be merged into the collective consciousness of that despicable, cybernetically-enhanced species.
In daily use, I found the phaser easy to manipulate, except for the 'stun/kill switch' which was a little stiff at first - luckily, the cat was only singed!
Although I have not finished reading the user manual, apparently this phaser also changes your television channels - how brilliant is that?

I love it, but...., August 9, 2005
This review is from: STAR TREK ORIGINAL PHASER REMOTE CONTROL (Electronics)
Any Star Trek fan or anyone whom ever wanted to shoot their TV will appreciate this. It feels good in the hand and looks good on the coffee table. It's a conversation piece, more realistic looking & sounding than the toys I played with as a child and those built today. Having said that, the manual claims the device makes 4 different sounds when, in fact, it makes only 3. The sound effects (and glowing muzzle) are a separate mode to the remote control function, which is a good thing. However, the unit is very directional and must be aimed directly at the device you wish to control and, because of the placement of the IR emitters above the "muzzle", tilted forward slightly to achieve a true aim. Although you do get used to this it is still slightly awkward. The channel change & mute buttons are easy to use but it feels strange using your other hand to operate the volume control like a gunslinger "fans" his revolver. Likewise, all other buttons must be controlled by your other hand. My main concern is with the codes. None of the Magnavox codes listed in the manual operated my Magnavox MPTV68 TV but the auto-search feature did easily find a compatible code. The unfortunate thing is that no codes exist in the remote to operate my RCA 33MS91A TV, nor my LiteOn LVW-5005 DVD recorder/tuner, nor my Conia M330 DVD player, nor my Pace DC420NF digital cable set-top units - all of which are popular, widely used devices. As a result this "universal" remote, sadly, operates only one TV in my house and, since I never watch free-to-air TV through my TV's tuner and use a separate audio system, this URC's sole function is to switch on the TV and select the AV channel.

Great product but needs updating, March 30, 2005
This review is from: STAR TREK ORIGINAL PHASER REMOTE CONTROL (Electronics)
This is a great remote for any Star Trek fan! My 7 year old son and I love it. However, the 4,5,6,7 number keys do not work with my 1 1/2 year old Zenith TV. It needs to be updated for the newer TV's and DVD recorders.
