it works well enough, but could be better;,

This review is from: Key Bottle Opener
It was cheap compared to the other openers of this style, but I have a few problems to point out.
Pros: cheap, compact, substantial, indestructable. It blends with keys well, and it has enough thickness to last a long while. It's impossible to bend by hand, solid steel. I like this type of opener. Cons: for a bottle opener to work, you need, above all, leverage. This design has poor leverage by itself. It works if you pry and loosen the cap a bit, but it has no handle. you can't grip the head of the key and pop upwards. Sure, you could grip your other keys, but it would slip due to the key ring killing your leverage. if you look at the "skeleton key style", it has a long handle with the tip working as the opener. That means the fulcrum is right behind the tip, with a comfortable handle giving you a major advantage in torque. (*I never tried the other style, but the shape is so much better designed from an engineering standpoint, I'd recommend it over this one.) This design puts the fulcrum right in the center, the least efficient spot possible, especially in so compact a style. Ergonomically, you should make a "thumbs up" sign, put your thumb upon the cap, and pull straight up; the handle should fit that position. This is why you could use a plastic lighter to open a beer(see youtube), it has a good grip and fits the hand. A dedicated bottle opener should take less than 5 seconds to open a beer, this one could be outgunned by said bic lighter. and although I don't see it as a minus, the steel is brushed rather than polished as they say in the overview. It looks better over time and hides scratches, which is nice when kept on a keychain. The product is well made and priced ok, but the flawed ergonomics and engineering holds it back. I'll use it for the time being since it does its job, but if I had to bartend or something, I'd look elsewhere.

Built to last... not too bulky either.,

This review is from: Key Bottle Opener
All the keychain bottle openers I've had over the years have had one of two problems--they are all either annoyingly bulky, or they are flimsy and ineffective. This one strikes a nice balance of size and performance. It's just a tad larger than my house keys, and a bit heavier, but not so much that it is bothersome. And it's built to last (stainless steel) and just big enough for a nice amount of leverage. All those plastic or cast aluminum ones take up too much space on my key ring (and subsequently my pocket) and I eventually remove them--relegating them to the spare keys or the junk drawer. Other smaller openers I've tried are too flimsy to work properly when you need them, so what's the point? Thumbs up for the BrewzKey--this one will probably still be on my keychain years from now.

I normally don't write reviews, but I figured I'd do one just for the hell of it.
I purchased this nifty little bottle opener a few weeks ago and it is amazing. It's light but strong and, with proper technique, you can open any bottle anywhere. It IS harder to use than a traditional bottle opener. You need to hook the opener EXACTLY below a ridge of the cap before applying leverage. It's not that hard to do, but it will probably take you a few tries to open a bottle at first. Once you get used to it, it works pretty well and you'll open most bottles in one try. Is this worth replacing your main bottle opener for? Probably not. You trade efficiency for tiny size and a nice look. But having a bottle opener on you when you need to open a few beers is worth five bucks IMO. This thing is built to last! The only con (besides the learning curve) is that it feels so much like a key that I sometimes try to open my door with it!
