3.0 out of 5 stars Great album, disappointing CD
I love this album, and have had an LP of it for years. But I was disappointed in the CD. It sounds as if the mixing of the various instruments was changed, and the recordings are not as enjoyable as they are on the LP.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the Best, April 30, 2005
This review is from: Stormy Weekend (Audio CD)
When I got home from a two year stint in Italy in 1973 a close friend introduced me to Mystic Moods Orchestra. We were both young men full of romantic notions about young women. These recordings siezed our young minds and stirred our hearts.

My all-time favorite recording by this group is Stormy Weekend. The sound effects of ocean, rain, trains, and traffic are insinuated into the recording in a most delightful and believable way. The selections are the best collection of romantic melodies ever recorded by MMO, with the best arrangements of some of these tunes you will ever hear.

The Sandpipers' old tune, Come Saturday Morning, always a sweet little thing, becomes a lavish and luch romantic dream in this recording. Lovers' Lullaby, a piece I've never seen in any other recording, is another piece designed to carry you away to a much sweeter place. Even Paul Mauriat's old standard, Love is Blue, gets a rain-fresh treatment here.

If I were forced to choose my favorite CD of all time, I cannot think of a better candidate than Stormy Weekend by the Mystic Moods Orchestra.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Mystic Moods Classic, August 31, 2006

I've owned several recordings over the years by the MMO and this one is my favorite, hands down. As a young Airman stationed overseas in 1982 these recordings were something of a revelation as I'd never heard sound effects and music blending together in seamless perfection to produce something so beautiful. There's something haunting about this music that stays with you so that you find yourself whistling it's tunes throughout the day.

The sound effects, which include train whistles, thunder, and rain, plus the terrific orchestration and wonderful playing make this an MMO classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stormy Weekend (Los Angeles), May 10, 2008
This review is from: STORMY WEEKEND (Audio CD)
I am updating my LP's to CD's and have to have this series by the Mystic Moods Orchestra.

They take movie themes, love songs, and popular melodies, play them in a full orchestra setting and dub in parts of a freak four hour thunderstorm over Los Angeles. Brad Miller included various sounds of trains to enhance the audio experience.

Fine music, great effects with a real "Man and a Woman" quality.

There are 17 albums listed, but the best are:
One Stormy Night
Night Tide
More Than Music
Mystic Moods of Love
Emotions
Stormy Weekend
Highway One
The Storm and The Sea

5.0 out of 5 stars Great quality, Great Music, Great Memories, Great Price, February 26, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: STORMY WEEKEND (Audio CD)
I just used the Amazon MP3 download facility to purchase this entire album. I was skeptical about using this facility because I am not technically savvy, and there is no refund on downloads. There is a test download feature that sold me on the process. I got the album for 8.99 and the quality and music are fantastic. My previous experience with this album was the old vinyl version, but the digital is even more fantastic. I have already created a CD from the digital download, and just as Amazon claims, there is no problem creating a CD from their MP3 downloads. I'll be going to bed listening to this CD for many nights to come. It is beautiful soothing music. And I'm sure I will be purchasing more MP3 downloads from Amazon in the weeks to come.

Thanks, Amazon, for bringing back great memories at a great price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and Soothing, November 11, 2007

I've listened to the Mystic Moods Orchestra since they produced their first albums on LP vinyl many years ago. I still have about 5 of their albums in storage. I was very pleased to find that most of their work has been re-released on CD. I now have One Stormy Night, Stormy Weekend and Nighttide on CD and plan to purchase more through Amazon until I have the complete collection. Absolutely the most beautiful and soothing sounds I've ever heard. So realistic....it puts you right there where it's happening.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stormy Night,is still my #1 album since 1975, September 25, 2008
This review is from: STORMY WEEKEND (Audio CD)
I bought a used 1972 Camaro Rally Sport in 1975. The 8-track playing during my test drive was "Stormy Night". I think I was actually "vibrating" from hearing that thrilling music, with the sound of thunder and rain beating down on the concrete patio outside the open door. The music coming through the sound system in that car was so awesome that I bought the car, as long as he was willing to throw-in the 8-track tape. Best car and tape I ever owned. I put hundreds of miles on that car, and a lot of trips to Lake Tahoe, just so I could listen to "Stormy Night". The tape wore out and broke years ago but I kept it anyway. I just found the new Mystic Moods CDs on this web site and immediately bought "Stormy Night", and now I want them all.
"Stormy Weekend" must be as great as "Stormy Night", so I'm sure I won't be disappointed. What a way to "get into the mood" and feel romantic. By the way, I bought the car from Barney Luce. The license plate was "B Luce". I had to let him keep it though, which was probably a good idea since I was always feeling romantic and very cool while driving that metallic, root-beer brown Camaro, and that 8-track playing. Now, I am twice the age I was back then, and I don't have a sports car, but I still love the Mystic Moods Orchestra.

5.0 out of 5 stars Romantic weekend music - especially on rainy weekends, May 1, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Stormy Weekend (Audio CD)
One of the most soothing, relaxing CDs I have heard and own...complete with background distant thunder, train whistles, and sounds of rain. May be a little melancholy but I have loved this beautiful orchestra instrumental since college on the LP version and was truly thrilled to have found it back in the 90's in CD format.

Too bad it has gotten to see so expensive. A re-release for this Stormy Weekend CD would definitely be something to look forward to finding.

Great listening for lovers, dinners for two or just quiet listening while reading a book. A must have if you can find it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Relaxing and Enjoyable, April 4, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Stormy Weekend (Audio CD)
Mystic Moods recordings must be very rare, as I see prices for a single used recording of 10 or 12 songs in the $100+ range. Too bad this recording and some of the other Mystic Moods recordings are not available on Amazon. This particular recording is one of the most relaxing I have ever owned. The music is lush and the sounds of the rainstorm in the background are very realistic sounding and relaxing. This one is great for relaxing on a hot summer day. Darken the room, put on the headphones, lay back and enjoy! I can't say how good the CD mastering is, as I own an old recording that may have come from LP record. Hopefully this will be available again. It's well worth owning. Update: Many of the Mystic Moods recordings including this one are now available. Unfortunately this still doesn't appear to be available here on Amazon.
