I finally decided to take the plunge and try the Sugar lip balm by Fresh. I've tried lots of other lip balms-- Neutrogena, Labello (German brand), Burt's Bees, and of course the usual Blistex, ChapStick, etc. The Fresh Sugar lip balm is truly worth the extra money-- it costs about 5 times as much as ordinary lip balm, and it is certainly at least 5 times the quality. Aside from the lovely smell and taste, this lip balm has a heavenly texture that I have not found in other lip balms. It goes on soft and feels like it is "melting" on your skin. It has a very soft shine to it, but isn't as shiny as a lip gloss, so it's nice to wear either (a) with just lip liner, or (b) alone, for a very nice natural look. This lip balm also has a formulation that is highly moisturizing-- more so than ordinary lip balms. I had extremely chapped lips (because I live in a dry climate) and this lip balm really helped me repair my lips within a few days.

Finally, I'd point out that it sounds like the previous reviewer has not actually tried this product: "Granted, I'm sure the balm is fragrant and tastes lovely..." Why give a negative review based on price alone when you haven't tried the product? If the previous reviewer had tried this product, then she would have known that with Fresh, you get what you pay for-- very high quality products.

I bought this during one of my Sephora 'shopping sprees'. I usually spend upards of $200 when I go to one, as there are none around my are. Since I would have used the 22.50 this lip balm cost on something else anyway, I put it twords this lip 'treatment', since I fell in loe with it the second I smelled it. I dared not test the one at the store (I'm somewhat of a germaphobe, especially when it comes to testing cosmetics.) I opened it as soon as I got out of the store, and I lived it from that second on.

First- it lasts much longer than normal 'waxy' lip balms (chapstick, blistex, ect). I only need to apply it once in the morning, and my lips won't bug me for the rest of the day (I love my carmex, and it can't get close to doing that). It feels so silky smooth, and makes lip makeup (lipstick, liner, gloss) apply so much better, and look great (no wrinkled/dry lips here)

Second- you should buy it... most of the more expensive makeup stores have some sort of satisfaction guarentee, and have testers you can use before buying, so why not go for it? Even if you buy online, sight unseen, you'll love it too, as long as you like the scent of lemons (or can deal with it for a great lip product). The scent really is delicious!

One last note, I love the packaging, its cute and metal with a screw on cap, and doesn't get damaged when dropped, or packed into a heavy bag.

This lip balm stays on a LONG time and feels like silk. Plus it smells like lemon/sugar - very sweet.

Let me guess.....the thought of paying this much for lip balm seems maybe it's just for people who light their cigars with $1000 bills, right? But as a person who has tried almost every lip product out there, let me assure you that this one is different.

1. It's genuinely moisturizing, not just waxy. Waxy products (like Nivea, Chapstick, Burts Bees, Kiss My Face, etc.,) have their use; they're great for creating a barrier, which is useful if, let's say, you're skiing down a mountain. Ones that are too thin (like those in squeezy tubes) feel good at first, but then you have to reapply frequently. But Fresh Sugar kind of melts into your lips, so that they're comfortable and moist, as well as protected with a light barrier. I can apply it in the morning, and be good until afternoon, or leave it on overnight for intensive healing and softening.

2. It's not overly girly. There's no color in the original version (brown case), no extreme glossiness on the lips, and almost no flavor. It has only the tiniest hint of a light lemon-y flavor, but it's barely there. Sometimes, all you want is a good lip balm--no bells and whistles--just something that WORKS.

3. It's very luxurious. The case is like machined aluminum, sort of like you'd find on a tiny pocket flashlight, or those tiny keychain capsules that hold rolled up money or medications for emergencies. (Once you're done with the balm, clean it out, and reuse the case for holding something secret! ) The cap screws on firmly. I really dont think there's another lip balm like it on the market.

I've been through multiple tubes of this stuff, and have bought it for friends and family members. Sure, it's pricey, but it also WORKS. Don't spend your money on crap--save it for the good stuff.

I am 56 & though always have had very dry skin (except for oily eyelids, sigh), but since turning 50 my skin is even dryer. Also I have allergies so often I sleep breathing through my mouth, making my lips even dryer. I have tried everything , cheap and not so cheap, nothing works. My lips are cracked and rough, I end up pulling of the rough dry skin ( I do mean dry, after off lips it is like thin, brittle paper with NO moister or softness.), this means I end up also pulling off new skin also, making sore spots and the cycle keeps going. I have been like this and nothing helped, every day for the last week. I forgot I had this in an older purse, for over a year, so I put some on, way to thick due to how dry my lips were and I was only going to be home. I have used it 4 times in the last 24 hours; ALL my rough dryness, and soreness is gone! I used this when I only wanted to keep my lips moist, but not needing to also GET them moist and it was nice and did the job, but so did other cheaper things. BUT when my lips were beyond dry, rough, and sore when nothing worked, this is the BEST thing I have ever used!
I think those who do not like it do not have really dry lips. It can fill a bit messy but so much better then dry sore lips! I use it off and on during the day and when I go to bed. Finally I can wear lipstick again!
