Don't do the mistake I did and read this book in an empty stomach..... Really good recipes and a good "story line" hopefully this will be some of my "famed Sunday meals"

I didn't know what to expect before I loaded this on to my Kindle and started reading. The premise of the novel is a set of Italian recipes with each one accompanied by a story. This is the first of its kind that I've ever read or even heard of, so I thought I'd give it a chance and wasn't disappointed after finishing it a few days ago.

Daniel does a great job of creating the recipes and making sure that each one feels authentic and taste wonderful. All of the stories with each recipe is also well done and does a great job of connecting the food to the story. It's hard to figure out which one is more enjoyable. The story side or the recipe side of this novel, but I had to chose it would be the recipe side of the novel as the recipes are truly great and highlight Italian cuisine.

If you're looking for a great cook book to give you some great Italian dishes to try out all courses, with a few stories to read while your food is cooking, then this is definitely the book you've been looking for. As it does a splendid job of creating wonderful, quality meals.

Wow, what a nice surprise. This book is amazing. Filled with great recipes and wonderful stories to match, painting quite an enchanting picture of the colorful Italian-American life-style of; Food, Cooking, the people and their fine rituals of the Italian Table & Kitchen. What a Joy! Get yourself a copy. You''ll be glad you did. I am.

I loved this book. I grew up in a town that was a little United Nations of nationalities. The majority were Italian and some of my best friends and even married some family. Living in different parts of the country I find the food is just not the same even when they say they are from the same providences. I greatly miss the Pork Stores with its sausages hanging from the ceilings. Cases full of cheese and open barrels sitting all over the stores. You will have to read to find out what a port store is. But you will not get that wonderful aroma as you open the door of cheese, sausage, spices and all the other wonderful ingredients. Need a pick me up, enter a pork store. How could you be down with all that good smell swirling around.Making gravy was an all day event on Sunday. Saturday was for making the pasta. I had a neighbor that would allow me to help her on both days. On Sunday all the family would show up at her house for dinner after Church. It was ironic because she was not Italian, her husband was. She was considered the best cook of the family and Sundays and holidays were at her house. Make some good memories for your family and friends. These are comfort foods for me.

Many of the recipes are very close to those, my grandmother, who was from Sicily, made. These recipes are very good. My only critique is that the book could be edited better, but the recipes are very good. Buy the book if you want authentic italian recipes.

Get ready to sit back and let the feeling of an Italian-American Sunday wash over you! In Sunday Sauce, Bellino-Zwicke captures the full essence of Italian-American cooking, it isn't just about the food (although the food superb).

He draws us into the kitchen and tells one tale after another, in a manner that makes us feel like we are enjoying a great afternoon cooking with loved ones! He even provides music suggestions for when you are cooking, to capture the full experience.

I am always on the lookout for new recipes to add to the dinner time rotation. Our garden has been overflowing with green beans and I was tired of our regular recipe, so I started with the Green Bean recipe and wow is it a keeper. I am looking forward to years of Lucia Bellino’s Stuffed Peppers and the Sausage and Pepper Frittata.

Next on my list of recipes to try is his Mommy’s Stuffed Cabbage!

"Sunday Sauce" is not just a recipe book. It's a celebration of the Italian-American culture. After reading it and making some of the recipes, I feel so much closer to the Italian community. The way that Daniel shares his experiences, and gives you a thorough background of each dish, makes you want to know more. The book is refreshing and hilarious. The recipes are absolutely delicious. My family love.. love.. loved the Sunday Sauce that I made today. I will be using this recipe book over and over again. Thank you for adding to the joy in my home.
