Well worth the money, fine for the average photographer,

I bought the Sunpak 8001UT after a friend had bought the Sunpak 6601UT and was very satisfied. The only reason I went "up" to the 8001 was it qualified for free shipping (just over $25) whereas the 6601 didn't. For the price, the build quality is excellent and should serve the average consumer well. It is not what you would call bullet-proof by any means, but treated with a reasonable amount of care there doesn't seem to be any reason why this tripod won't outlast your next 2 or 3 digital cameras. The hinges on the stabilizing bars are rivets, that seems to be about the weakest point I could identify on the unit, but still seem sturdy enough. It's lightweight, folds fairly compact, and has been stable enough for me even on somewhat windy days. I couldn't be more pleased considering the price. It's amazing what $26.99 will get you, especially considering that these days the same amount of money will only get one of my two gas tanks on my truck half full!

This is my fourth tripod. The ones I have had previous to this one have all felt cheap and weak. One collapsed with my $400 camcorder on top of it. This tripod looks and feels sturdy. The legs have some weight to them and don't feel like they will collapse under the weight of my equipment. Honestly, I was going to get the 6601, but with this one I got the super saver shipping (Thanks to the recommendation of one of the other reviewers), but I am completely satisfied with this product. I like the bubble levels. I used them this past weekend to take a family reunion portrait in my back yard. I plan on taking it to the beach this summer for another family portrait (on my wife's side).

I purchased the Sunpak tripod after doing some research online. The other positive reviews of this tripod on Amazon helped sway my decision to purchase it. In short, the Sunpak delivers. It easily opens and closes, and has a quick detach lever you can use to quickly remove the camera from the tripod should you need to follow the action.
Once locked in position, the tripod stays locked. It's incredibly versatile in its adjustment. A small level bubble comes with the detachable mount; you can use this to ensure your camera is straight and not at an awkward angle. As a professional wedding videographer, I can't praise this tripod enough. The Sunpak is exceptionally sturdy while being lightweight. It's also easily transportable, and the price is reasonable. I highly recommend it.

Great Tripod. Great Price.,
This review is from: Sunpak 620-080 Tripod (Electronics)
The Sunpak 8001UT Tripod is a great product. The quality you receive for the price is excellent! I have been using this as my main tripod for my Rebel XT with several different lens (35mm f/2,70-200mm f/4L), It is able to function just fine using even the heavier 70-200mm. The quick release mount works as one would hope, Quick, Safe and they even give you an extra plate for other cameras or to let a friend use while out shooting. The tripod is very light weight yet sturdy and durable even when fully extended.
During the last 8 months I put this tripod through intense use. Climbing mountains, Hiking in all sorts of weather conditions, Dropping it off ledges, Using it as a walking stick, In water, In Sand and in snow. It has stayed strong during all of this. But just last week I was simply walking with it in my hand and one of the legs broke. It seems the plastic piece that connects he hinge to the leg snapped off. Unfortunately I am unable to fix it. With that said, This tripod is quite a good deal for its price. I believe you get much more than you pay for and then some. I have recommended this tripod to my friends I shoot with and they are also very happy with it. I will be buying another one of these real soon! pros: -light -great price -durable -feels safe with your expensive camera on it -Can stick it in a regular backpack -Extra quick release plate -bubble levels -small spikes on bottom of legs cons: -does not come with free money -does not dispense beer -does not clean house A great product!

Much better than the previous road kill...,

This is my second tripod. My first was a ground score on the side of the road. Evidently someone had had enough of that thing to gift it to me. I too have become frustrated with it so I will dispose of it properly this time. No need for the torture to continue. The Sunpack is very stylish and looks and feels solid. I have only used my Sony Handycam with it. It has a small flat quick release mount so I just leave the camcorder attached to it and store it in my bag that way. Makes it quick and easy for setting up since I am shooting the same scene over and over (video diary). I just leave the same settings, collapse the legs and lean it against the wall behind a door. One feature I like about this tripod is that there is a vertical adjustment so you can increase the height of the camera (and mount) about a foot after you have leveled the legs properly using the built in level. For this novice, that's great otherwise I would be screwing around with the legs all day trying to get the camera the right height. The quick release leg adjustments seem a bit flimsy but they haven't given out so I will report back if they do. I am very pleased.

I needed a good tripod to use with my digital slr to take hiking and this one is great. Has all the features of my heavier, more expensive tripod with 1/3 the weight. The only drawback is that it is still fairly large when fully collapsed. It fits in a backpack, but takes up a lot of suitcase room when I pack it in a suitcase for plane trips.

i bought this one at amazon and am very happy with it. i used it when i went to a national park and it was absolutely awesome to use.
i didnt need a very expensive tripod. This one is light enough to carry. fits ok in a bigger backpack. easy to open and sets up fast. 2 plates come with it which is very required if u have 2 cams like us. it is not very flimsy, legs are individually adjustable which helps on a slope. also we have used in windy areas too and there it didnt shake and it even has spiky feet to keep it steady ....good... the height is really good as it comes almost to my eye level ie 162 cms( I do not remember the exact height of this tripod right now) U really need a tripod this high if u want good pictures. i have found it to serve my purpose real well. also it is real easy and fast to put in the camera using the quick release mount. i did a lot of research when looking for this tripod and and this one fitted the best for specifications and money too.

This is an excellent, light weight tripod and is so versatile! each leg is individually adjustable and locks securely in place. the levels aid in making sure you're even all around, horizontally and vertically. you can move your camera horizontally and vertically and even stand it on end with this tripod... and it packs up easily and quickly. the only thing that bothers me is the level where your video or camera sits, i can't see it well with my camera attached. another great thing is that the plate your equipment screws to is removable, and an additional plate is included with this tripod... i've been leaving one plate attached to my camera, so when i'm ready i can just snap it in place!

Easily Broken,

I really like this product except that I have had to return it because the three arms that connect to the three legs from the center post were broken off from the legs. The one sent to me to replace my return had two of these same connections broken the second time around - geez! Don't want to deal with it anymore.

This is a fine tripod for stationary photo work - good price, sturdy enough, nice level, attachment is good, quick release works well. However the pan and tilt are just not smooth enough for video.
