About the Author

Leslie J. Thompson has been a successful journalist and marketing writer for 20 years and has extensive experience writing for magazines and corporate clients across a range of industries. She admits that she knew very little about football before she moved to Dallas, Texas in 2003. Although she now follows the Dallas Cowboys and enjoys watching Sunday games with her husband, she still considers herself a greenhorn as a football fan. For this reason, Thompson was excited to rely on the expertise of Ross Smeltzer, a talented freelance writer, football aficionado, and longtime follower of the Baltimore Ravens. This is their first eBook collaboration.

5.0 out of 5 stars Short, an easy read and a great handbook for football! January 30, 2013

Cute cover. It conveys exactly what is contained in the book. As a bit of a history buff I loved reading about the early development of the game. My husband was the PA announcer for the Dallas Mavericks for years so he is a well-informed sports guy. Just a couple of days ago I was asking him about the NFL and AFL and how it morphed into the NFL. Being married to him has afforded me quite a bit more knowledge about the game but now I've got a great resource for filling in the holes and it saves him from having to answer any more questions. (I'm pretty sure he secretly enjoys telling me though) I've already got friends that will be getting a copy. How great will it be when they appear to be "in the know" while watching the game with the guys! The facts are concise and it's an easy read. Anyone can understand it and easily locate what they are looking for.

As an added bonus there are recipes, party planning tips and some information about New Orleans. I am a native Louisianan and I will always love New Orleans which is a place near and dear to my heart and my only disappointment is that I won't be there! Why do I give it 5 stars? Because it represents exactly what it says it does. It's short and sweet and I can find the facts I need quickly when I'm watching the game with my iPad in my lap. Won't my husband's friends be amazed at my vast knowledge of the game!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good insight to Super Bowl 47 January 28, 2013

For once and for all, I was gonna learn about football before Super Bowl 47 Sunday!!! I've never been into football -- any and all rodeo sports, basketball (Lakers), and baseball (Dodgers) have been my favorites. Never thought that much about football. Although on occasion when I'd ask a guy to 'splain it to me, it was during a game and who wanted to take the time to explain all the details then!??!

OK, I've read the very short eBook (38 pages on Kindle) ... at least I now have a simple grasp of all those terms and maybe I can follow along during the game. The authors presented it in simple language, easy enough for a pre-novice like me to understand. And gave a good background to the development of the football league, the history of the Super Bowl and info regarding the coaches of the two teams for Super Bowl 47. As a "girl-teaser", there are recipes and ideas how to host a Super Bowl party ... typical finger food recipes but also includes a recipe for Big Easy Gumbo - sounded delish!

Now, will I become a fan of football?? Nah, I'll stick with my rodeo cowboys, my NBA and NCAA basketball players, and my forever lovin' Dodgers!! But it will be a good feeling to be able to watch the game and not ask, "what was that, what was that?"
