Editorial Reviews

Review

"SUPER iam8bit's artworks are a potent reminder of how passionately we felt about the simple little pieces of geometry on the other side of the TV screen, and the way we grafted an interior life and a sophisticated set of set of motivations onto their simple mission objectives." -- Wired Magazine

I am so glad that I purchased this for my husband. It is a fun book just to look through. The images are so beautiful that it can be a great coffee table book for anyone who is a video gamer especially if they appreciate art. Those who played classic will enjoy seeing their favorite characters rendered in different ways. No matter what your opinion of whether or not video games are art is there is no denying that what is contained in these pages is art.

I purchased this book for my 16 year old son. He got a kick out of seeing video game's classic charecters reimangined into some very creative art. I enjoyed the art in this book as well. It now makes for a nice coffee table book that my company enjoys when they come over. Never fails to impress.

I had the privilege of working on this collection of amazing artwork culled from the best of iam8bit's art show, SUPER iam8bit. This volume represents some of the most interesting, wild, and clever interpretations of classic video game properties. These are all-new takes on the characters we grew up with in the 80s, including Pac-Man, Mario, Donkey Kong, and a host of other memorable creatures. Because of the simple graphics of that era's video games, there are wide open spaces for artists to grow their own ideas, motivations, and perspectives on these characters -- and that's what you have in the pages of this book.

Of course, being involved in the project (our firm, Hexanine, worked with iam8bit in designing and curating the book) I'm a little biased, but even after looking at each of these pieces for months and months, there is something fresh, peculiar, and stimulating about each piece. This is great artwork, and the curious ties to my memories of playing Atari with one-button joysticks get juiced when I open the book. The work is top-notch in craft, and we did our best to truly do it all justice. In the end, we created a book for video game fans, because that's what we are. I think the love shows in the creation, bursting from every piece.

I bought this pretty much only because I had the first book and like modern coffee table filler. Awesome set to have :)

Great art featured and a great opportunity to relive your gaming childhood. This book is just as good as its prequel. A few page were water damaged on arrival though
