This modem is equipped with MoCA. Simply add a MoCA adapter to your network and you’re up and running in no time.

Motorola is a communications pioneer so I figured that the SBG6782 would provide me with a dependable internet connection. How wrong I was! There was no problem in getting it registered to my Comcast service but the connection was anything but consistent. It would randomly lose the internet connection from a few to several times a day. My previous modem and another that I'd rented from Comcast never exhibited this problem. ARRIS' "customer service" department's response was to blame a too-strong signal, a too-weak signal, interference, noise on the line, etc.; in other words, anything but a possible problem with the modem itself.

A bit of online searching (when the connection would stay up) showed that I was by no means alone in suffering from this problem. The Comcast forums are rife with complaints from SBG6782 users experiencing the same random dropouts. Similar complaints can be found on other forums as well.

I solved the problem by returning the SBG6782 and purchasing a Linksys C3700 for about half the cost. Now I'm getting 8 DOCSIS channels down and 4 up. My network speeds are the highest they've ever been and there has not been one dropout.

I cannot recommend the SBG6782.

I purchased this cable modem three months ago, primarily because I wanted to try MoCA within my house. Things have generally worked out well. The admin interface to this unit is of extremely high quality. This is the first home network device I've used where I can tweak WiFi radio settings (aggressively) without having to undergo a reboot / power cycle. In fact, I can make configurations settings on the 5 GHz network even if I have a large number of clients working from the 2.4 GHz network or multiple family members streaming video over MoCA connections. Similarly, I can change my firewall settings without causing any service disruption to the house. Excellent engineering, folks.

Unfortunately, Comcast pushed a firmware update to its customers this February. Beyond rebranding the admin UI from Motorola to Arris, it broke several features. One example is MoCA throughput reporting, which has since registered as zero bps. I assure you it's still working well, and I can only assume it's still clocking in at around 237 MBps, as reported prior to the update. (1080p video streaming still works well, even when I have two endpoints watching different content, via MoCA.) Another example is how this unit "forgets" its reserved DHCP IPv4 addresses. Lots of us do this on fixed endpoints to ensure we have a solid, predictable network in our homes. Should the power get reset, this cable modem dumps all reservations as if there had been a factory reset.

Since returning my old DOCSYS 3.0 rental cable modem and employing this, I've enjoyed a noticeably better experience with Netflix and Amazon Instant Video.

While this device is pricey, it is superior in quality to most "home" router/modems. I connected to Comcast in about 5 minutes, simply connecting the cable and then phoning in the MAC address. It works very well. Note: most devices that are more than a year or two old will not connect to the 5G side of the network. However, you will be ready to connect as you upgrade your computers, cell phones, etc., to newer technology.

Amazing speed improvement. I am running a wireless AC connection through a Mac Pro 2013 and the speed difference was apparent the second I hooked this thing up. There are a few things to note about hooking it up though that are important. Thought I would post here:
1) URL to adjust settings is :http://192.168.0.1 (as the manual states)
2) Default Username is: admin (as manual states)
3) Password is: motorola (MANUAL SAID IT WAS PASSWORD), this is incorrect.

I have Xfinity/Comcast. Setup was relatively simple. I connected using the default password that is on the bottom of the unit. Instead of messing with the settings, I just opened a browser window in safari. I had to hit refresh on another page, but a Comcast Setup window came up. It was relatively straightforward...it detected the settings (I didn't have to type in a MAC address or anything) and I was off to the races. If you are using a wireless AC compatible device, make sure you hook up to the "5G" network or you will not get your full speed.

Simply amazing difference. Amazon Prime Video is running in HD with zero lag time. Expensive, but if you have the $$ I couldn't recommend anything more. Much better than what Comcast provided for a wireless AC. Not sure if it is much different for a wireless N network.

Hope that helps... don't forget to change your password!

since this appears to be Motorola current top of the line cable modem, uninformed shoppers looking to avoid monthly ISP equipment lease fees - should make themselves aware of the following facts:

1. this item is for sale at target and bestbuy for $220 so amazon resellers are taking advantage of you here.

2. this modem is no different than an SB6141 for $90 plus any weak Wifi 802.11n|ac Router you can also find well under $90.

3. 802.11ac is the latest wifi, 802.11ad comes out in 2014, yet few consumer devices are faster than 802.11n just yet.

4. when you own a modem it's easier to troubleshoot with an ISP if your modem and wifi/router are separate devices.

taking all this into consideration, you would be much better off buying the SB6141 and any top rated good wall penetrating 2.4GHz/5GHz band 802.11n wifi router, with total money spent well under $200.
