I got this as a used unit and love it. It can be battery or ac adapter powered. I can set it to record on motion or constant (always or a frame every X seconds). I can recieve (indoors) a poor video image from my neighbors camera (outdoors) thats 4 houses down (150') away in my house. The cameras vary in strength the x10 camera I have, has a better image and sound while the mini pinholes that come with have no sound and don't transmit quite as far. You have to cycle thru the 4 channels (standard 2 gig hz range)and cant view all at once. I have a wireless router and can still get a decent picture upstairs from a camera outside at the front door so your mileage may vary. Getting better quality cams might help. I am very impressed with this system except for not being able to record or view all 4 channels at once. The cf memory card needs to be large to get any amount of recording time on it I'd say a 4 gig card

Luckily I bought this unit used on Amazon. It was just like new but the box had been opened (probably somebody found out what a hunk of junk it was and sent it back)I only paid [...] for mine, I see that it goes for MUCH more new. What the advertisment dosen't tell you is that you have to buy a memory card also [...] it does not have its own memory. When you plug in the wireless cameras they mess up your wireless iternet connection. Also whith the camera less than 20' from the recorder the image is bad and there is a lot of static. It will make a great toy for me for the money I spent but I feel sorry for anyone that pays full price for this, you will be greatly disapointed.

Works fine as long you don't have other products such as Wireless telephone handset that uses the same Giga range, You are force to disconnect your phone to avoid that noisy line of interference in the monitor screen.

Hopefully, no one else around your neighborhood owns another wireless security camera, I end up picking up his signal and viewing what ever he was pointing at.

I thought it was hilarious for a moment, but after a while I realized that it will compromise your own security, since is not encrypted or is using a different channel.

The manual does takes a bit to read, some sections are scripted weirdly. The rest was just comprehensive reading. You need to take the time reading it, until you do understand your device controls better.

The storage cards has to be formatted to the describe format according to the manual, for it to be able to store your images correctly.

Otherwise is fun to have, specially inside your car, when you have an intrusive cat sleeping in the bonnet of your car, during the night or your neighbor kids are curious looking inside your car through your drivers side window.

Yes, I did spoke to him about it. I gave him a print copy of his face. He had nothing to said, after that one.

I never could get the cameras to work. I was able to use a previously purchased outdoor camera to work. I could see real time, but I needed to record and could not get it to record. I tossed it in a box, never to try again. I should have sent it back.

I gave it two stars and as an afterthought should have given it none but the edit feature on the review would not allow that part to be changed.
