5 Stars to this company who designed this!

This saw has a very innovative design wherein the entire blade folds into the red handle, and it would be very easy and safe to pack/carry; it's also very light.

I purchased this saw primarily for backpacking and it fits that bill perfectly.

This is a terrific camping or backpacking saw. Not only is it strong and durable, but it's small and light-weight enough that you won't notice it your pack. It cuts logs up to 4 inches in diameter quickly and with little effort. If you're willing to make several cuts from various angles, you can even cut logs nearly twice that diameter. It's also easy to assemble and disassemble.

I can't say enough good things about this saw. There is simply no better camping/backpacking saw available.

I use this saw all the time. It's perfect for camping/kayaking, I also keep a 22" in my vehicle. The only addition i made was a small washer for the wingnut, but it's not a big issue. This thing eats through hardwood. Highly recommended.

Great lightweight backpacking saw! Works fine for my needs but compare it to other options to see what fits your needs best (i.e. Bahco Laplander, Sven Saw 21", Sawvivor 15", and Sawvivor 18").

Build Quality: Build quality is great! The all aluminum construction is sturdy when put together. The rigidity of the saw comes from tightening the wingnut on the blade. You have to unscrew it and rescrew it to assemble the saw, so make sure that you don't lose the wingnut in the process!

Ergonomics and Functionality: It's easy to saw with one hand on the handle under the wingnut. If you need additional leverage, you can grap the upper portion on the red part of the saw with your other hand. Sawing logs un to 4" is no problem. Larger logs (6"-8") can be done with this saw too, you will just need to move around the log to get through it since the aluminum frame will hit the log otherwise. The blade on this saw tears through dead trees in a heartbeat; just make sure not to forget the WD40.

Carryability: Closed, the Sven Saw is 17" long and about an inch wide. at 15 ounces it's fairly lightweight. It's easy to ride inside a backpack or strapped to the side. They also make a 21" model which is bigger and heavier. Unless you need to do a lot of firewood processing for winter camping, I'd stick with the 17" for your wood processing needs.

Bottom Line: Although I love this saw, I wish that I had spent the extra $10 to get the Sawvivor 15". The Sawvivor 15" packs up smaller and lighter than the Sven Saw 15" while still retaining top notch build quality. I'm actually thinking about selling my Sven Saw and getting a Sawvivor... the old saying "Buy nice or but twice" really is true.

This saw is proving to be a survival campers best friend. It is light weight, cuts through wood like butter, and fairly durable. The down side to this saw is if you use it bare handed in the cold weather, be prepared to have frozen hands. It's constructed of light weight aluminum and thus has higher thermal conductivity. = colder hands quicker... so wear gloves. Great camp saw, i even bought an extra blade for just in case.

I had a Sven Saw quite a few years ago and used it fairly often. Over time I used and abused it and lost track of it. I recently purchased the 15" model to use on winter backpacking trips. I generally pack light (15/20 lbs total) but I wanted a way to gather and cut firewood to use during these trips. The Sven saw is light, barely a pound. It folds down into a small package. I wrap a piece of tyvek around it to protect my pack. I was able to effortlessly cut seasoned downed logs 4"/6" no problem. The blade cuts on both strokes and I had about 12 pieces in less than 20 min. The saw stores compactly assemblies easily. Overall it was exactly what I was looking for.

Ordered twice, both did not assemble - the handle was longer than needed so the bolt barely reached the hole and there was no way to secure it. And it was clearly different from the picture - the handle was as long as the unpainted arm.
I suppose both saws were from the same defective batch...

Also, on the second one I saw holes from older staples, probably it was returned once and sold again.
Bought from "Olympic Outdoorsman, LLC".

But the saw itself seems to be descent, will probably order another one from another merchant.

I purchased this saw primarily for backpacking and it fits that bill perfectly.
Very light weight : 15oz.
Very sharp blade that 3/4 inch wide.

Very rugged, lightweight and strong.
Comfortable Grip
Durable
Perfect for backpacking and other uses
Sharp Blade

I have both this 15" version as well as the larger 21" and both are very capable. The 15" is better for backpacking & the larger version for canoe camping or even home use. Ultimately it depends on your needs. This will easily process logs up to 4 - 5 inches.

The only negative about this saw is the replacement blades. A 15 inch blade is almost the same price as the saw which doesn't make a whole lot of sense. You would think that it would be a bit less expensive.

Assembly is easy just as breaking it down is.

Highly Recommended!
