I use it for examining tool marks on small parts and it works well.
Jonathan Payne
The button is so difficult to press and requires so much force that it's almost a certainty your pictures will be blurry and out of focus.
Jim
The 'shutter release' button for taking pictures is too stiff and causes the camera to move when pressing it.

I purchased the DM540 a few days ago and it produces good images but buyers should be aware of a couple challenges. From 10X to 17X is optical zoom but going up to 500X is a digital zoom and in turn the detail is affected noticeably. My one real gripe is that the shutter is tripped by pressing in this very small button/switch on the top side, this button/switch is also the control for the zoom. The button is very small and it is very hard to trip the shutter without moving the camera. It is like you have to press it in just a little too far and with a bit more force than you thing you should have to. You press and then press a little more and the camera moves a little. A bigger button and a weaker spring would help a lot.

I've used the camera for images of fine detail on metal and the images are good it just takes a couple time to get a steady image.

This is great, instead of using a magnify glass i use this magnifier and the result is superb, the detail that you see is out of this world, i do electronic work and sometimes the circuit board components are very small, this helps me to see everything that there is to see, i can even pinpoint a burnt part by seeing the burnt residue or even a part that is over heating that cannot be seen by the naked eye, i also use it at times to look at insects, you will be amaze to see what they look like close up.
the only down side is that when you take capture a picture the image is not like what you see on the lcd screen.
i will recommend this Microscope to hobbyist, even professionals, it works great for me.

This magnifier exceeds my expectations. It is easy to use, take still and video photos, and zoom captured pix too. It can be used to view photos taken by other cameras such as a trail cam that doesn't have a viewer.

This device is a great tool for biology study at any level.

We will use it to get close-ups of insects and plant pathogens to assist farm workers in identification of pests.

My brother has been having vision problems so we bought this for the magnification. You do need a card to take pictures, but if you're looking for magnification, this is very, very good. Once you get the subject in focus, you can just keep enlarging it on the screen until you can read it. And it stays in focus. It's really very good. We were both impressed.

the mechanisma could use a little work. It was hard to get the sd card all the way in, and so the device wouldn't let me take any photos. Once I jammed that SD card in good, it worked fine, though the shutter/zoom combo is a little clunky. It is, however a fraction of the price of the the ProScope it emulates, and zooms better, without having to change (losable) lenses.

This is a nice compact digital camera with a macro lens that allows for really close in shots. The illumination LED ring and the ability to set the brightness adds greatly to the device. As you might expect, you do need to rest your hand on the table so the image is stable. The only objection I have is the dual mode use of the zoom switch to snap the shutter.

I purchased this product new and was disappointed that the quality of the images being magnified are not as good as the manufacturer suggests on their website. Magnification up to 40x is good for viewing but the resolution on the photographs (even at low magnification) is not great. When viewing an object at 500x magnification you can barely tell what is being viewed and the photographs at this magnification are of no use. Using this device at the lower magnifications (up to 40x) can be fun but beyond 100x magnification the images become distorted and it is difficult to keep the device steady enough to get clear pictures.

The digital microscope worked but when it was time to take pictures the SD card would not "lock" into the slot. Otherwise i would have liked this product. I think i just bought a lemon.
