4.0 out of 5 stars Good Value for price range
This product is a good value for the price range. It allows you to easily copy negatives, slides and various sizes of pictures. Quick, easy, and very simple to figure out how to use. For the home user wanting to preserve large volumes of negatives, slides or pictures, I would recommend this product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, poor image quality.
While the SVP PS9000 black Digital Film 35mm Negative & Slides Scanner is easy to use, I judge the image quality as poor. Ease of use was the main reason for purchasing this item. It was extremely easy to use. The basic design is very clever. While it is not actually a scanner but a digital camera mounted inside the product enclosure which results in quick image results...

This review is from: NEW! SVP PS9000 black Digital Film 35mm Negative & Slides Scanner (Electronics)
While the SVP PS9000 black Digital Film 35mm Negative & Slides Scanner is easy to use, I judge the image quality as poor. Ease of use was the main reason for purchasing this item. It was extremely easy to use. The basic design is very clever. While it is not actually a scanner but a digital camera mounted inside the product enclosure which results in quick image results (compared to a traditional scanner). I believe this product needs further development to improve image quality. Especially for reproducing images of glossy print photos. The glossy surface of such photos act as a mirror which reflects faint images of the interior of this devise. I noticed a dark rectangular shape in the center & diagonal lines on the upper corners of the "scanned" images. I believe the image sharpness & color reproduction is also of poor quality. The ability to reproduce quality slide images was also unacceptable. With the "crop" settings for 3 sizes of print photos, resulted in eliminating about 10% outer edge of the image. Poor image quality was my reason for returning this item.

Bought this for my parents. They have boxes and boxes of negatives and old photos that they are scanning into this machine and it's very user friendly and helping them successfully tackle a huge project! It was a great gift and they love using it.

Real easy to figure out without instructions. The instructions could be a little better for the inexperienced, but I made it work just fine. Many negatives and slides were old enough that I had to "Fix" the image, but some slides were preserved very well and I did no modifying of the final image. Never had a need to scan a photo so have not done so.

3.0 out of 5 stars Almost there, January 24, 2011

This review is from: NEW! SVP PS9000 black Digital Film 35mm Negative & Slides Scanner (Electronics)
I bought this item not realizing that the vendor does not support it for use on Windows 7 systems. It arrived when promised. The first problem was that the software serial number was no where to be found. I checked the website of the software vendor and found no downloads without a seperate purchase. Even then I did not realize that the software was not compatible with Windows 7. I forged ahead with the install (on my Windows 7 system)and found that it worked. I scanned several dozen slides with good results. I learned to clean the slides and to avoid dust. The scan quality was OK and certainly acceptable to me. That was the first day. The second time I tried to use the system is would not function.
Emails and calls brought offers for a refund, but no serial number for the software and no solution to the Windows 7 situation. I grudginly returned the unit and received a refund.
It was good for one day.

1.0 out of 5 stars Program freezes up after each san, January 11, 2011

This review is from: NEW! SVP PS9000 black Digital Film 35mm Negative & Slides Scanner (Electronics)
The sanner works good for 4 slides, 2-3 minutes then the program freezes up and I need to restart the computer between slides, then it will work for 4 more slides, quite frustrating and there is no one to call or contact to help resolve the software issue. I plan to send it back because this is not acceptable

Got as a gist fr my in-laws. Loved the concept. Pro is very very easy to use even for the less then tech savey. Con the resolution quality leaves something seriously to be desire. Picture that were copied into the unit came out fuzzy the colors were not as bold over all poor resolution. Be wary of the 14 day return policy and the company is hard to get a hold of for any problems.

I recently received it and over new year holiday used it and quality is poor to be nice on scanning pictures, you see the reflection of the inside of the machine on the scanned picture. Slide scanning a little better but still very poor.

Im returning it this weekend as soon as I can get to the mail.

I put in google for a SVP PS9700 (NOTE: 9700) Amazon says it's $89.99. I click on web site and it brings me to the 9000! If you are not paying attention you actually get a lesser one than what you want!!!!!!!

I have never been able to get the color regulated on this machine. It is very easy to load but its instructions are lacking in how to correctly adjust the color....very disappointing.
