This review is from: NEW!SVP PS9700 Black(with 2GB) 3-in-1 Digital Photo/Negative Films/Slides Scanner with built-in 2.4 LCD Screen" (Electronics)
I bought this item with the sole intention of scanning negatives. It came complete with everything I needed to do that. It also came with most other accessories you would need if you wanted to scan pictures or slides. The 3 trays for different picture sizes are good for the most common picture formats. I found it very easy to use and the onscreen menu is very straight forward once you get use to it.
To scan, you just push a button and that's it. It's essentially a small 5MP camera inside the box that takes a picture. It you are scanning negatives the scanner knows this because you slide a switch before you insert the negatives. The software in the scanner does a good job of reversing the negative automatically. The problem was that the quality was just mediocre. One of the issues was when adjusting the brightness or contrast of the scanned image the center was always darker. Maybe a bad lens or CCD in the scanner. Another problem I had; to insure the film frame is perfectly centered there are notches in the negative tray that are securely locked in at each frame while you push the tray through. Well after about 100 pictures, whatever grabs those notches broke. So I had to be careful and hold the tray with one hand and make sure I didn't move while I captured the image. This was frustrating. I tried to contact the manufacturer and got no response; unacceptable. So I contacted the seller, Slim Sharp, and got an immediate response. After a few e-mails, they e-mailed a shipping label and I returned it. After a few days we were refunded 100%. I was very impressed with the professionalism of the seller, and they always responded to our e-mails quickly and courteously. This is a product with promise. It doesn't seem like it would take much to make it a winner. But right now I can't recommend it. If they come out with a higher quality version I would probably purchase it; especially from Slim Sharp.

Just received this today and immediately pressed it into service. Had to return a previous purchase of another product which just didn't cut it. This scanner is amazing for its speed and versatility. I've scanned several hundred slides with perfect results. I am amazed that the advertising for this product does not include the fact that it has 32mb of internal memory as well as utilizing SD cards. Very pleased with this product and its performance.

Great product! It's nice to have the screen to see what photo you are working with and it's very simple to use. With the free SD card from the seller, it was ready to go right our of the box. Although, I don't use the photo scanner on this product very much, it is nice to have that feature when you travel. No more setting up the laptop and big scanner to copy prints from relatives.
The few things I would change would be: the ability to scan older negatives, the slide/negative holders should be longer or they should include a few more in the box. It does slow you down to have to change the tray after 3 slides. All and all, great value.

I had really hoped this product would be the answer to helping me convert negatives, photos and slides into digital images. Not so!
It is a cheaply made plastic box that transforms brilliant slides into sludgy, blurry images. The inside and optics of this device are so cheaply made, that it came with scratches in the ratteling, white plastic interior. I was very disappointed and I am sending the product back. It is very easy to use, and it would have been just too nice, if it were to actually work and make images look good. Maybe this is good enough for your half blind great-grand-uncle Wilbur, but not if you actually want to enjoy your images.

May Not Be Mac Compatible but STILL Mac Friendly,

We are in the process of scanning and cataloguing thousands of photos, negatives, slides and more and were looking for a product that would accommodate all this at a reasonable price, while still giving quality results. The reviews on this product were good, but I was hesitant as we are an all Mac household, not a PC in sight - the product description says a Windows OS is required. The negative review from the other Mac buyer was a slight scare, but the fact that the media is stored in the unit itself and not directly to the computer led me to buy this product anyways, and so far it works wonderfully.
It comes with a 2GB flash drive to store the media, I switched that out for the 16GB that we use in our camera and started scanning negatives and slides. Granted the quality isn't what you would get from a high-resolution professional photo lab scanner, but most of the photos and negatives I am scanning are 30+ years old and many much older. I plugged in the scanner via USB to my Macbook to use as a power supply (there is also a wall adapter plug to use the wall socket for power) - the scanner is not recognized by the Mac, but when I am finished with a section, simply pop out the memory card, put it in the camera and download directly to the computer, or put it in your printer that reads memory cards - an easy workaround for any Mac. It would be nice if in the future the company would create a Mac driver for this product to be able to save directly to the computer, but for now this works. So don't be afraid if you have a Mac - you can still use this with a very simple workaround!

This 3 in 1 digital picture converter is great! It allows a quick, easy conversion of photos, slides and negatives to digital format (SD card). So far I've converted lots of photos and slides, and it's lots faster than using a regular scanner. Well worth the cost!

I was excited to receive this scanner in the mail, as I have hundreds of slides that needs to be archived. The scanning process itself is not complicated, but the directions were very limited and left some information to own's interpretation. The picture in the booklet did not match how the slide holder was designed. I had one vintage photograph which it scanned without any issues. But, like I said earlier, my main goal was to scan slides. When I attempted to scan them the first time and saw what they looked like, I thought I must have done something wrong. The slides were incredibly dark and out of focus. I flipped some slides around and tried again and got the same results. I saw that most of my slides were Kodachrome (I don't know if this made a difference.) To be sure, I scanned some non Kodachrome slides and got the same results. I really wanted this scanner to work, and I have had poor success with previous scanners. In the end, quality is everything and the quality is nowhere near what I was looking for. I am sending it back to get my money back and continue my search for a scanner that can accomplish what I need.

Love this. My ONLY problem is that the picture above makes it look as it the large picture is a screen when instead it is where you put your own picture to scan and turn into a digital picture. The picture you look at to see your negatives and the slides is the little picture toward the front. It is still a great product. I was able to scan things in and post right to facebook! It is wonderful.

Slide - photo scanner SVP PS9700,

Two basic flaws exist in the photo scanner:
1) there are reflections along vertical edges when scanned for all three sizes; 2) there is a small black rectangle in the center of scanned black & white photos. (It appears to be equal to the size of the viewing screen.) The slide scanner also has two problems: 1) the edges of each slide are cut off the scan (image smaller than slide); 2) the final scan is blue toned requiring computer enhancement. 3-in-1 Digital Photo / Negative Films / Slides Scanner with built-in 2.4" LCD Screen |
