The Courtship of Princess Leia - an excellent audio book, July 28, 2007
This review is from: SW: The Courtship of Princess Leia (AU Star Wars) (Audio Cassette)
The Courtship of Princess Leia was an excellent audio book, save for one minor error, but I'll get to that in a moment.
In this story, it is roughly 4 1/2 years after the events in Episode VI. The Hapes Cluster makes a diplomatic overture to the New Republic, suggesting an alliance, on the condition that Princess Leia marry Hapes's Prince Isolder. Leia is torn by the needs of the New Republic, and her feelings for Han Solo. Han is livid at the idea, and abducts Leia, to take her to the planet Dathomir, which he has won in a card game. But it is already occupied by the Imperial forces of Warlord Zsinj, and a race of Force-strong witches (men are not known to have the Force here), including the evil Nightsisters, whom even the Emperor feared. The Millennium Falcon crashes on Dathomir, just as Luke Skywalker and Prince Isolder come to the rescue, and follow them down.
What follows is a series of confrontations between the Singing Mountain Clan (good witches) and the Nightsisters, as the SMC attempts to help Han, Leia, Luke, and the others repair the Millennium Falcon so they can retreat. But the Nightsisters, led by Gethzerion, want the Falcon for themselves, so they can get out into space.
If you've read the book, then you know what happens. However, the adaptation for the audio book has a critical error in it. It names the Super Star Destroyer over Dathomir the Sovereign, when it is supposed to be the Iron Fist. The Iron Fist was reported destroyed at the beginning of the book, so I guess they wanted to avoid confusion. However, if you listen to the X-Wing books series first, then you find out how Zsinj faked the destruction of the Iron Fist and retreated with it to Dathomir. This error (and I admit, I am something of a perfectionist) is why I give this a rating of four stars. I wish the system allowed for half-stars.
But it's still a great book, either read or listened to, and you'd be smart to buy it! :)
