I loved this book! While the first book in the series (Southern Fried Sushi) starts off slowly and builds to a fun read, this book hits its stride early. Shiloh is still a funny, bumbling mess trying to figure out her place in the world. Like most Christians, especially new in their faith, she embraces Christ, but the past still calls her in the form of her ex-fiance and the dream of working as a reporter again.
Spinola's style of writing is fun and the characters seem to come alive in this book. Becky and Tim's struggle with conceiving a child is well-done and adds a serious balance to the funny episodes in which Shiloh finds herself. What I like most about this book is that the author has the characters endure real experiences and emotions. Shiloh's new walk with Christ and her struggle to figure out God's plan for her makes for an interesting read.
Fans of Christian fiction will enjoy this book. I do recommend reading book one first.

This sequel to Southern Fried Sushi continues right where the first book left off. This book has elements of fun and faith depicted in characters with deep Southern roots. Shiloh's journey in her faith and growth in maturity is apparent.

LIKE SWEET POTATO PIE is the sequel to Spinola's Southern Fried Sushi and is just as comical and endearing as the first. It's filled with inspiration through and through, and you'll find yourself pulling for things to work out well for Shiloh. Spinola does a fairly good job of catching you up to speed from the first story, but it helps to have read it to really understand this one. Don't miss either one -- they're charming!

Book Description
An uncertain future makes Shiloh doubt her new faith. She’s also grappling with her attraction to a man who’s all wrong for her—and the appearance of others who make a better fit. . .or do they? Will God help Shiloh sort through her doubts and prejudices to answer the desires of her heart?
Jennifer Rogers Spinola lives in Belle Fourche, South Dakota, with her Brazilian husband, Athos, and three-year-old son, Ethan - and she's pregnant with their second child (a boy!). She has lived in Brazil for nearly eight years and Japan for two years. Jenny is the author of Barbour Books' "Southern Fried Sushi" series - the first of which was a finalist for the 2012 Christy Awards - and an upcoming romance novella collection based on Yellowstone National Park (also with Barbour Books).
Jenny loves camping, hiking, and digging in her very first garden. (Spaghetti squash, anyone?) She has a B.A. in English from Gardner-Webb University in North Carolina and has worked as a journalist, Christian missionary, Language Arts teacher, and ESL teacher.
Right now she's trying to 1) talk on the phone 2) put Ethan to bed and 3)desperately avoid a migraine - all the while think of edits for her most recent novel.

This is book 2 out of the trilogy, I have now read it twice impatiently waiting for November when book 3 comes out. Jenny did not disappoint her readers! Like Sweet Potato Pie takes up right where Southern Fried Sushi left off. For that reason I recommend you read them in order. Just when Shiloh's life starts to settle down, God reminds her that he is still in control and her journey to become more "Christ-like" is far from over. As with book 1, I laughed and cried along with Shiloh. I was SO excited when I found out what the "P" stands for,...and who knew! I felt the story continued to flow, I couldn't wait to turn the page to find out what happens next. Book 3 can't come out quick enough! Jenny, you write, I'll read!
I loved Like Sweet Potato Pie by Jennifer Rogers Spinola! I can't wait to read the next book in the series. I've read both books in this series so far, and I can't tell you how refreshing it is to read Christian books that really are Christian. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these books for new Christians or any Christian who likes a good story. These books will make you laugh out loud, cry, then laugh out loud again.
Faith Like Sweet Potato Pie continues the where Southern Fried Sushi left off, so I would definitely recommend you start with Southern Fried Sushi first. These books tell the tale of Shiloh's conversion and struggles as a new Christian.
Jennifer Rogers Spinola is now one of my favorite authors!

Book Description
Witness as Shiloh's new life in Virginia crumbles around her. The house she inherited from her mother is much more than a place to live--it represents Shiloh's changed life and what little financial security she has. But her half sister is contesting their mother's will and the IRS is threatening to take it for back taxes. She's also discovering God's ideal when it comes to love and romance. When Mr. Right shows up will she recognize God's hand or let circumstances and prejudices blind her heart to the love of her life?
Despite Shiloh's attempts at keeping people at arm's length, people have fallen in love with her. I have too, even if I'm just a reader. Shiloh's life is a perfect picture of grace and mercy. It really is. I love it when God uses the locals of Staunton to bless her. And I wish I could be there partaking in their festivities and fun. Not to mention Spinola is one of the most talented writers I've read to date. She really knows how to paint a picture, and so well that you feel like you've been painted in with her characters. I won't give anything away about this beautiful story, but I will say that it's enjoyable and full of surprises. Just when you think you know what's going to happen, Spinola throws a curve. And the way she weaves God into this story is well done. It never comes off preachy. So...anyone who is thinking of buying these books...Don't wait! Buy them! I strongly believe Spinola has really made a name for herself in Christian fiction, her voice is absolutely unique. I look forward to (and will READ anything she writes) her next books.
