When I bought this I knew nothing about guitars other than, I wanted to play bass guitar. I didn't do much research on it and paid the price.

This is a suitable practice 4-string bass. However it has incredibly micro-phonic tuners. This simply means that if you turn the tone knob up at all, it will buzz like crazy. Towards the bottom of the neck it becomes rather bowed. This means that the strings are higher off the fretboard than they should be. This will give the higher notes a metallic ringing sound. The strap it comes with isn't big enough to fit a 12-year old, the cable it comes with is low quality and makes the bass sound a little compressed. (Yes, cables do matter), and the amp is absolutely horrible. The amp gives a static buzz all the time, comes with no preset effects and is rather quiet. The first thing I had to do replace was the amp.

If you are starting to play bass guitar I suggest you go to your local guitar shop and talk to a representative there who plays bass. They will be able to find you a decent amp and bass for a reasonable price. The price will be more than this, but is definitely worth it.
