About the Author
A musician and author as well as a painter, Albert Oehlen, who was born in Krefeld, Germany, in 1954, was a seminal figure of the 80s-era European punk and art scenes, along with Martin Kippenberger and others. A major retrospective of his paintings toured European museums in 2004.
Alison Gingeras is Curator for Contemporary Art at the Musee National d'Art Moderne, Centre Pompidou, Paris.
Kai Althoffwas born in 1966 in Cologne, Germany. His vivid, psychologically complex collaged and painted canvases, which often engage with issues of masculine identity and German history, have been shown in solo exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; the ICA Boston, and Anton Kern Gallery, New York.

The triumph of painting... what can I say...
I got these Saatchi Gallery books for myself. I was totally psyched. But when they came, I flipped through them and was left less than inspired. From Volume 3: I love Schutz, and have a fondness for a few other artists here. I have books on Shutz, Raedecker and Essenhigh. Those books are much more engaging than this Saatchi pap. In this, volume 2, the art of Ackermann and Althoff are engaging to my eye... but... I was expecting more. The reproductions here are of a superior quality.
