By A Customer
This review is from: Sabatier Anodized Aluminum Nonstick 24-Piece Cookware and Tools Set (Kitchen)
I ordered this cookware set not two months ago and already the "aluminum" is peeling out of the bottom of the pots. Unbelieveable!! Or not!! Don't waste your money on this product!

As with some of Sabatier's knife sets here on Amazon, the list price of 400 smackers is a joke. This is an ultra-cheapo, flimsy set that should be AVOIDED. There are better alternatives, even at this price. Check out deals on Farberware's sets, some of which are around the same price.

This set of cookware comes to us from the famous French manufacturer Sabatier. It is, perhaps unfortunalty, no longer made in France but in China where labor is cheap. While this is no dynamo when it comes to cookware, at the very reasonable price Amazon is charging, it is a decent starter set, good for college students, or is a reasonable product for light household cooking (making boxed pre-fab foods, etc...).The major component of the pots and pans is aluminum which has been anozided to harden it and give it some non-stck properties. The inside is further coated with a layer of mediorce non-stick "teflon". Inexpensive coatings of teflon, which is a plastic, will fall off if overheated, if used with metal utensils, sometimes even if put in the dishwasher. However, with judicious care and light use, it will last almost forever. While some studies have linked elevated levels of aluminum on the brain to Altzeimers, this is both inconclusive and quite premature. As nearly every professional chef uses anodized aluminum cookware (under names like Calphalon, Analon, LTD, etc...), you have very likely been eating off of pans like these in your favorite restaurants for years. Doesn't mean it is safe, but this also does not mean it is time to toss out all fine aluminum cookware and replace it with another substance. Overall, these pans can be expected to last a couple years if you follow the care instructions and use nylon utensils with them over medium heat. The occasional fork will leave a mark and - as you get what you pay for - these will suffer more than more expensive pans.

Good Cookware Set,

I gave this as a gift and the person who uses it absoultley loves it. She uses the pots and pans every day and threw away all her old stuff. It has been over a year and it still looks like new. I wish I could get another set for myself.

I have had this set for a couple of weeks and so far so good. Nothing has stuck to them and they are a breeze to clean. I just have to remind myself not to use metal with them.

I'm not a huge fan of Sabatier kitchen tools, mostly because of this set. It makes a good set for someone just starting out who has no cookware, and needs a bunch of inexpensive stuff right away. This isn't a set that lasts for a long time. The pots and pans are nicely sized and they are anodized aluminum with a nonstick coating, which is helpful. Makes cooking and cleaning up afterwards quick and easy. The handles are nice and stay pretty cool - good for me, since I tend to burn myself a lot in the kitchen! Just make sure you only use nonstick or nylon utensils with this set, the pans scrape and scratch VERY easily. Another thing to be careful of with the pans - while the pans can go in the oven at over 700 degrees, the lids can't go in over 480 degrees! While I think this is a decent set, there are many other sets out there with higher quality items in the same price range. If this one is on sale, it might be worth purchasing - but definitely shop around before committing!

Aluminum cookware leaches out aluminum oxide when in use (cooking). Is that why this cookware is so cheap? Aluminum oxide is a leading cause of Alzhiemers Disease. Better to get a nice (but expensive) set of stainless steel cookware. Although stainless steel is steel alloyed with nickle, which is also toxic, it is much safer for your memory.

"Aluminum oxide is a leading cause of Alzhiemers Disease"This is not a fact. Aluminum may be found in slightly elevated levels in the brains of those with this disease, but there have been no studies linking aluminum to the occurrance of it. In other words, is the aluminum there because of the disease, or is the disease there because of the aluminum? No one knows so people should not spout-off without knowing the facts. |
