A classic tool that helps get the best from knives, this sharpening steel is a solidly crafted addition to any knife block. Between professional sharpenings, tiny metal fibers bend down on a blade, dulling the surface. The purpose of the sharpening steel is to straighten up those fibers, maintaining the sharpest edge possible for daily use. This model is of medium weight, with a tapered handle and steel edge. It's comfortable and balanced reasonably well, but the handle is definitely heavier than the steel itself. Depending on individual preference, it may feel just right. Wipe it down as necessary after usage--there's no need to give this tool a serious scrub. --Jill Lightner

I think the quality control could be improved, the sharpening steel came slightly bent and the handle is loose, unfortunately, returning this item is more trouble than its worth. The knives look good and are extermely sharp, over all its a good set of knives at a great price
