5.0 out of 5 stars Let's not fool ourselves
This knife set would probably never be found in the home of a worldclass chef. But for $14.99, this is an amazing deal. If you go to a mass merchandiser (KMart) or a department store (Sears), you can't find anywhere near as good of a knife set as this one, especially at such a low price. The knives are dense, sturdy, and well-weighted. This is the perfect set for the...

2.0 out of 5 stars Stainless is not supposed to rust
I realize these knives were cheap, but I didn't expect them to start rusting in less than three months. Yet, that's what they're doing. I see them headed to the garbage. The kinfe block is useful though.

This is the perfect set for the person that not only wants a decent set of knives, but also wants a really stylish addition to their kitchen. I have a set of these and, since none of my friends are professional chefs, everyone always wants to know how I could afford such a nice set. It's really a great deal, and you'll use those shears more than you know! As a final note, dishwashing is not recommended with any "good" knife sets, but I've washed the steak knives at least 100 times in there, and there's been no difference in quality or appearance at all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice for the price, April 23, 2004

This is an attractive, good quality opening price point cutlery set. They should not be washed in a dishwasher and should be hand dried, just like all cutlery! They are a stamped set with a "fake" bolster, and as a stamped set they are light weight. You would have to be doing something very wrong to have one of these "snap like twigs" as another reviewer has suggested. Yes, they would rust if not hand dried. Overall this is a good cutlery set and a very good value. A solid 4 star set.

5.0 out of 5 stars Snap Like Twigs???, June 21, 2004

Sorry, but I agree with another reviewer when they said you have to be doing something very wrong to have these knives "snap like a twig." True they are thinner than a $1000 set, but they are wonderful for use in a home. I have had them for 4 or 5 months and haven't even had to sharpen them yet. Granted I don't try to chop wood with them, so they haven't snapped them like twigs, but I cook 5 nights out of the week and use them just about every time. Great knives, great price, DO NOT snap like twigs!!! Great Buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent set. Good balance of weight., June 15, 2004

Bought it for $19.99. An excellent block set. Very sharp and cuts easily. For the price, this cutlery set is well worth it. Looks very exquisite as well.

As with any type of cutlery like these, don't use it in the dish washer. Always hand clean and hand dry. But you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Set , Good Value, April 14, 2004

I have had this set for about 3 months and I really like it. The quality is great for the price and my set has not rusted or bent. I try to wash these knives by hand because even my high end French stainless steel knives will rust in the dishwasher. I think it has something to do with the abrasive nature of the soap. Anyway, I've had no problems with these. The handles are comfortable, the block is stylish and the set has everything I need.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a deal!, May 16, 2004

I love to cook for friends so when I bought a cabin this year, I got this set. I have used them almost every weekend and I really like them. They are lightweight, easy to grip and very sharp. Like any Stainless Steel knife, they lose their edge and have to be sharpened sometimes with the included steel. Even though I paid almost $350 for the French set I use at home, these are almost as good and are a whole lot less expensive!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool Set,Great Price!, April 14, 2004

I am living in my first apartment and my Dad bought me this set along with some other essentials. I am having a great time using it when I cook for friends and I have not had any problems with rust. The block looks great on my counter and the handles are soft and easy to grip. I am going to buy this set for my sister when she moves to a new house next year.

This set of knives was surprisingly good for the price of $20. Yes, the blades are a bit 'flexible,' but they are sharp (were very easy to use on tomatoes, raw meat and bread). The 'flexibility' of the blade didn't affect the performance of the chef's knife in cutting through a very large watermelon. In summary, these inexpensive knives cut much better than my really expensive set of J.A. Henckels "Twinstar Plus" that I bought for $500+ four years ago.

The knives are pretty sharp so I thought it was a good deal. However, dots of rust appeared on 3-4 knives in less than a month. For $19.99 that I paid, I got what I paid for. Buyer beware.
