(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (Audio CD)
My mother originally wouldn't let me and one of my older
brothers buy this album because of the cover. We were but young
lads at the time and were raised in a very Catholic household.
Ironically, we had to get permission from our church priest to
buy the album, after he convinced my mother that it wasn't an
evil album!(He was a big SABBATH fan!) When we finally got around
to listening to it, we were somewhat disappointed at first, at
least with side two. Who Are You, Looking For Today and Spiral
Architect were a little too mellow and weird for our tastes back
then. The first half of the album we absolutely loved, with great
heavy metal songs like the title track and A National Acrobat and
the very beautiful instrumental Fluff. Many years later, I still
love this album, tho' I'm still not too fond of the songs Who Are
You and Looking For Today. SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH was their most
mellow and experimental album up to that point, tho it does con-
tain some classic songs and is still WAY, WAY, WAY better than
anything they've done since OZZY OSBOURNE left. A National Acro-
bat is one of the coolest SABBATH tunes ever, with some very
intelligent lyrics, some truly original guitar riffs and some
outstanding singing from OZZY, who was hitting his peak as a
vocalist. Killing Yourself To Live is another classic SABBATH
heavy metal tune. And, of course, there's Fluff, which is pro-
bably the most beautiful and melodic thing they've ever done.
A wonderful album!
