4.0 out of 5 stars Sabella spooks and pleases with a unique sound, June 28, 2002

Sabella, by Lonesome Wyatt and the Holy Spooks, is an underground classic which ought not to be missed. The album offers constant energy while delving into sorrow, melancholy, and childish sentimentality, and then vacilating between ebullience and somber testimony of longing. Perhaps the sum of this potpourii of sentiments borders upon dementia, but it is that exultant sort of madness thoroughly enjoyed by its victim! Others I have played the album for cite a likeness to Appalachian folk, traditional "cowboy" music, and 1930's Americana, but tinged with a "Gothic" and punk element. This still falls short of encompassing the sonic buffet of divergent sounds, which also exude a spontaineity reminiscent of Jim Morrison's antics with the Doors. The final track "A Lovely Coffin" radiates warmth and loving reassurance, while stringing together a chain of preposterous and childish, yet poetically beauftiful lyrics. I suggest that the listener form one's own opinion, for this album consistently defies categorization.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Suprise, November 7, 2003

I suprisingly like this band, I haven't really heard anything quite like it. I especially never thought I would like this so called gothic/folk/punk type of music, but he makes it work. I really enjoyed Crows and If You See Sabella, but A Lovely Coffin has to be my favorite. He has a great voice for the slower songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bizarre!, August 10, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Sabella (Audio CD)
I stumbled upon this band on mp3.com and was impressed so much by the songs that I immediately went to lonesomewyatt.com and bought a cd. It sounds like a mixture of gothic/punk and old folk/country songs. What else can I say? This is a very strange recording.

5.0 out of 5 stars sabella, November 16, 2008
This review is from: Sabella (Audio CD)
for any fan of those poor bastards, this album is a must.lonesome wyatt's bourbon drenched vocals and maniacal howlings have always blown me away but on this album he really raised the bar. sounds like he done drowned in the bourbon and clawed his way out of the grave to produce this incredible disk.every song is fantastic, possibly one of the darkest and evilest recordings i've ever heard.buy this album.

I couldn't say enough about this album or Lonesome Wyatt. He is the type of dude I would like to drink a beer with. This album is consistent, dark but yet peaceful.
