She sings opera with the clarinet beautifully,
By Rose Garden "clarinetrules" (DE USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sabine Meyer - A Night at the Opera (Audio CD)
I have had this CD for 3 years, and listened to it many, many times at home or on my long drive in the car. I have never felt tired of enjoying the pieces on this CD, and got more of her recordings on other CDs instead.
Sabine Meyer is a true master of the clarinet. In this recording of opera pieces, she demonstrated how well the clarinet could sing opera beautifully. My favorite pieces in this CD include Bassi's "Fantaisie brillante on Verdi's `Rigoletto'", Danzi's "Variations on `Là Ci Darem la Mano'", and Rossini's "Theme and Variations". This is definitely a clarinet CD to have.

What can I say about this CD? It's marvelous! Sabine Meyer's playing is fluid, musical, and effortless. The transcriptions of operatic pieces are expertly done and the Rossini Intro, Theme, and Variations at the end of the CD is a showstopper! A must-buy for any clarinettist or music-lover, even you conservative opera-aficionados out there!

Sabine Meyer proves her virtuosity again in this incredibly CD of operatic music for the clarinet. The CD contains some little known works for the clarinet that deserve more credit than they are given. You will be hypnotized by Sabine's delicate sound and impecable interpretation. Well done Sabine!!

Sabine Meyer plays music pieces rarely heard on stage but frequently performed in music schools. Just listen her interpretation of Rossini's variations! Bravo!

Stunning artistry,

Yes, that's the word. Artistry. The performances are wonderful and beautiful. As one who has played the clarinet for many years, I think this is my favorite clarinet album. Sabine Meyer really has the profound understanding of the music from within that she says one needs to be able to bring out the expression of these works.
Meyer is accompanied by the Orchester der Oper Zurich, and they work well together. Of course, it doesn't hurt that Meyer has an excellent German clarinet. German clarinets are easier to keep in tune with an orchestra than French ones. On the other hand, French clarinets usually sound better than German ones in solos, but I can't find any fault with Meyer here. As for Meyer's technique, well, she plays everything cleanly and, at least as important, artistically. Part of being an artist is choosing what pieces to play. To put it mildly, this is an excellent selection of works. If you like music but do not know much about clarinet music, this is the disc to get.

This recording, like all other Sabine Meyer recordings I have had the pleasure of listening to, is amazing. The interpretation is flawless and her playing is exquisite. Molto bene!
