An excellent 2-CD set featuring Sabine Meyer as soloist on 1 disc and her ensemble on another disc, March 8, 2009
This review is from: Sabine Meyer Plays Romantic Music (Audio CD)
This is a 2-CD box set, featuring two rare CDs on individual cases, all in a paper slip-case.
Sabine Meyer performs the Brahms Quintet as well as the rarely-heard Isang Yun Quintet. Ms. Meyer's playing is impeccable, as always.
The other disc features her ensemble performing the Dvorak Wind Serenade, as well as three octets by Myslivecek. You can find many star players here, including Sabine Meyer, oboist Albrecht Mayer, bassoonist Sergio Azzolini and hornist Bruno Schneider. The acoustics is a bit resonant. The Myslivecek serenades are excellent -- it was said that the young Mozart was influenced by Myslivecek. There are extended solo sections for each instrument. This is a gem for wind players.
