5.0 out of 5 stars my steering wheel hates me :(
I'm a percussionist, but don't worry, that doesn't mean I biased towards this kind of stuff. I actually don't care for most modern percussion solos as they tend to be chaotic and thus boring. For most people, percussion solos are something to mildly enjoy in small doses mainly due to the overbearing tone of many percussion instruments. The tabla is actually very dynamic...

2.0 out of 5 stars Noisy
Why so much noise? I know very well arabic percussion and I don't like this album... Sayed Balaha recordings are much more subtile. Sayed Balaha plays with the true smoothness of egyptian tabla... check his recordings, they are good for dancing and listening....

The tabla is actually very dynamic (which makes it very expressive) and imo has one of the lesser "in your face" tones.

That being said, this really is a great CD. Hossam really knows his stuff and it shows. But it's not all showboating. This is very technical, but actually extremely catchy at the same time which is a rarity. You'd have to be near dead to not physically respond to this music. I've not seen a person yet that didn't start tapping their feet or tapping their fingers... and these are people that get annoyed at my habit of doing that. Very infectuous.

The only downside to this CD is I think my steering wheel might fall off from my beating it so hard while driving or sitting at a light. Well, that and I probably look crazy beating the wheel and bobbing my head around. Be forewarned ;)

5.0 out of 5 stars All drums!, January 24, 2005
This review is from: Sabla Tolo: Journeys Into Pure Egyptian Percusion (Audio CD)
I got this cd about 2 years ago and I'm still listening to it. It's great for practicing hip and pelvic work, and more experienced dancers will be able to do other moves to it. In fact, I think more experienced dancers will benefit the most from this cd. Beginning students will find it too complex and overwhelming, but I would recommend that beginning students start with one easy song and practice movements to it then move on to another cd. If you're a fan of drums and like nothing but drums then this is the cd for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh yeh!!!, October 19, 2005
This review is from: Sabla Tolo: Journeys Into Pure Egyptian Percusion (Audio CD)
If this CD doesn't make you get up and move, you must not be breathing. Absolutely wonderful for belly dancing, driving, or anything!

And the list of people he has played with, from Robert Plant and Jimmy Page to Pino Daniele and Yesim Salkim ~ an absolute tribute to his talent.

Absolutely perfect ~ sit back, turn on the CD and see if you can stay still. Just try.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shimmy Please!, February 14, 2001

For a bellydancer shimmy workout this CD can't be beat. H. Ramsy gives the dancer an inspired variety of rhythmic combinations that will demand the best you have to give as a artist. Includes a booklet that lists each of the rhythms included in each piece- a nice touch. Clean, clear and flawlessly executed. Excellent for performance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots and lots of rhythm, July 11, 2000

This review is from: Sabla Tolo: Journeys Into Pure Egyptian Percusion (Audio CD)
Inspired drumming with an evolutionary rhythm that is uniquely Hossam's creation in the 3rd track (Serena's step). Both fun & a challenge to dance to ... enough tabla solos & rhythmic variety here to keep both the professionals & amateurs happy. Btw the catchy titles would appeal to those who follow the dance scene ... they include references to great dancers past & present

This is not only music for your ears, this is music for your entire body. There's nothing more enjoyable than listen to this and be dancing at the same time. Mr. Ramzy knows how to move you... you just have to follow the rythm.

Enjoy the trip.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST Bellydancing music! Inspiring and fun!, January 27, 2005
This review is from: Sabla Tolo: Journeys Into Pure Egyptian Percusion (Audio CD)
I have sifted through a lot of bellydancing/middle eastern percussion music before buying this one. I listen to this CD in the lab at least 3x/week, and I have been doing so for the last 6 months! I thought I would get tired of this after a couple months, but so far I am STILL listening to it 3x/week at work. WHY? Because Hossam Ramzy is a great percussionist. His music has a good degree of variation and contrasts. My hips move to his music AUTOMATICALLY. SO if you are looking for exciting, inspiring bellydancing music, this is the ONE.

5.0 out of 5 stars Un dieu de la percussion!!, September 18, 2001
This review is from: Sabla Tolo: Journeys Into Pure Egyptian Percusion (Audio CD)

This percussive is dynamic, inspired and incredibly expressive! For the dancers I can understand as well, but for anyone interested in egyptian/ world/ ethnic percussion this cd is a must-have! All percussive insturmentation, without overbearing string, horn, vocal accompaniment to distract. And the musical notations included were an additional surprise. Get it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Only for the very experienced, October 2, 2005
This review is from: Sabla Tolo: Journeys Into Pure Egyptian Percusion (Audio CD)
This is a great CD, very beautiful music indeed. However, having said that if you intend to use this as belly dance music you will want to be very experienced because the music is indeed quite fast. If you are just starting, pick something slower and work up to this one.
