4.0 out of 5 stars This album is amazing, November 7, 2005
This review is from: Saboteur (Audio CD)
The only reason I give it 4 stars is because I am left wanting so much more. Ep's are jsut generally to short, but the music here is something amazing to your ears. The songs are all generally a mix of good old punk music. I actually hear a little bit of early Jawbox in some of these songs. When I say early I mean Grippe.

This is the side project for the singer of Red Animal War, and bass drummer of Slowride. If you know what these bands sound like then you can get an idea what this album is like. The songs are not the so called punk you hear on MTV and else where, this music ahs meaning and a message. I jsut hope they release some more down the line.

Also check out Red Animal War and Slowride.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as Red Animal War, but an intelligent record., January 27, 2006
This review is from: Saboteur (Audio CD)
I figured I'd throw the Red Animal War comparrison down because I have such a personal connection to the music those guys make. Justin Wilson does a good job keeping the Red Animal War fans content with this record while exploring some new ground.

A little history... This band consists of 3 Texas natives who help fill out some popular Deep Elm history in both of their bands (Red Animal War and Slowride). This started as a sideproject and this EP was actually recorded in their practice space with no budget. Impressive to say the least.

The EP starts out with "Ignited", a rocker which promises to set the flow of the rest of the album. The next two tracks follow in the same fashion and then it cuts into "Mommy's Little Anarchist", which seems like a B-side compared to the rest of the tracks. Once that disaster is finished the album kicks back up to speed again with "Le Saboteur Produit Son Couteau", and shows this band has what it takes to surpass most of the music out there right now.

My favorite track on this record is "Declaration on Dependence Drive" which has a very Jawbreaker feel to it. Justin really showcases his vocals on this one.

The record finishes off with "Poison Rum To Soak The Lungs" which leaves you wanting more.

An impressive debut, my only complaint is the length. It leaves you wanting more, especially after multiple listens. Not as good as their full time bands, luckily there is new material from both Slowride and Red Animal War out this year as well. Would of been a 5 star record if "Mommy's Little Anarchist" would of been cut.
