5.0 out of 5 stars Not only against human attackers
Fortunately I hasn't been necessary to use it against a human mugger but it worked marvelously when a dog attacked me while I was riding my bike.

3.0 out of 5 stars Watch out for a loose cap
I haven't really carried mine on me too many times and already the cap has started to feel loose. I remedied this by holding the cap down to the canister tightly and running a piece of electrical tape around to secure it. That should fix it, but seems like something like this should come with a VERY secure cap as not to allow it to accidentally discharge if the cap were...

I remedied this by holding the cap down to the canister tightly and running a piece of electrical tape around to secure it. That should fix it, but seems like something like this should come with a VERY secure cap as not to allow it to accidentally discharge if the cap were to come off in a purse or pocket. yikes!

Other than that seems okay, and I hope I never actually have to use it on anyone. Take it camping in the mountains too... figure it would be enough to scare off any black bear in the extremely unlikely event one would come after me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely helps me feel safer..., March 22, 2011

I run by myself on the back roads behind my house. Besides random traffic in areas where there would be no one to help if someone decided to nab a runner, there are also mountain lions (or so my sister keeps warning me) and big dogs who like to stare me down menacingly. I tested the spray the first time I took it out- it sprays quite a ways (about 8 ft or so), but it's a stream spray- doesn't fan out at all. I'm just hoping I'm a good shot if I ever need to spray someone or something in the eyeball. I don't have any experience with other defense sprays though, maybe they all spray like that. It's a good size to hold on to. All in all, it gives me some peace of mind and keeps my family from worrying quite so much when I'm out there running.

Luckily I have not had to use this on anyone but it is very light and easy to carry. I am a runner and thought it would be a hassle not to have a strap for it. But actually it clips easily onto my pants/shorts and I do not even notice it is there.

We haven't, fortunately, had to use the defensive spray. However, the "trigger" has very simple on/off positions, but there is not a "safety" feature that allows one to store or carry the device such that inadvertent movement may activate it. The on/off feature is nice so that if you are carrying the device in your hand when you job and are attacked, you can easily use the spray. However, my wife has tried carrying it in a purse, and it shifted inadvertently to the "on" position. There is a real potential to accidental spray yourself. This is a design flaw.

I was searching specifically for the Sabre Jogger product (with the handle/clip for carrying). The product I received today is not the product in the picture. It is the same basic unit, except it has a metal pocket clip, NOT the hand strap shown in the picture. In reading the product description, it appears that the product is indeed the one with the pocket clip, NOT the strap. Someone should update the picture to be the correct one. It is not worth returning, I will just find a local retailer and purchase the product I intended to buy.
