Very well made and solid.

The plastic "rails" that attach to each side of the HDD have pegs that are supposed to be inserted into the drive's screw holes.

Pictures make it look cheaper than in is in person.
The aluminum is much more substantial than I expected for the price.
Also an added bonus is it worked with my 3TB drive even though the box states 1.5TB max.
USB 3.0 speeds are great, no difference between internal or external when used with a USB 3.0 plug.
If you have a drive collecting dust or need to convert one to external this enclosure is a very good option.

I had the enclosure for 3 and a half months and the controller board failed. It appears others find this to be the case as well. not sure if it is cheap components but would love to return it but too late. hope this is helpful to anyone considering buying. I really read these comments before buying and so taking the time to post this in case others can benefit. Either way, it is what happened in my case. Drive works fine in the computer or outside the case.

The AC plug, USB plug and switch are all on one side of the enclosure while the operating light is on the opposite side. I'm not sure whether this is good or bad but it might be significant for some people. It is large but then so are the 3.5" drives so I don't see what can be done about that. It doesn't insulate the noise so if you have a noisy hard drive then it will probably be noisy in the enclosure as well. I was able to install my 350Gb SATA drive in without any problems using the provided screws. I partitioned the drive and I am now also using it successfully as a backup device for my NAS.

This is an excellent product. Works great with a SATA drive. I use this for a 2TB Seagate drive and I have zero issues since I purchased several months back. Definitely recommend it. I gave 4 stars because there is no sleep mode for it and it continuously runs. But has a switch if you like to physically switch it off. My PC is Windows 8 and has capability to put external devices to sleep mode when windows goes into sleep mode. Unfortunately this drive does not support that. Otherwise, works great.

Shipment was very quick, had my two enclosures withing a couple days, even though I chose the 'free shipping' offer (I bought two, so it was over $25). Enclosures work like a charm - I was able to move my drives over in under 5 minutes each, and I'm now able to use them with the USB 3.0 ports on my laptop. And its 10x faster now when I do an external backup! Very happy overall, will probably order a third one soon.

It's functional. The fit is a bit off. Neither the instructions nor the description mention the two plastic pieces that have to be pressed into the HDD mounting holes to keep the drive in place. They go in very tight. The fit of the end cap that has the jacks, switch, SATA to USB 3 board, and LED is somewhat off; but can be managed. The end cap is held on by two tiny screws. There were two extra as you will drop at least one. It comes with a screwdriver that is nice to have for the installation; but, not one you'd keep in your tool box. The plating on the blade is only half done.

Edit: Dropping my review by one star. Running a 7200 RPM disk in an air tight enclosure is not good. They generate heat; and there is no way to get rid of the heat.

The enclosure comes with a back plane with a small circuit board attached, 2 screws, a screw driver, 2 plastic guides, and a USB 3.0 cable. When I opened my box, the circuit board was attached to the back plane but askew. It's easy to remove the circuit board and re-seat it, so I did, gently. The board clicks into place in 2 out of 3 places, but the middle snap can never be made secure; not without a Dremel tool. The result is that the power and USB ports are not flush with the back plane. Further, for the drive to slide into the enclosure properly, you have to push the 2 guides into the the 2 screw holes on each side of the drive. But the small plastic posts on the guides are too big for those holes. They'll go in but not nearly far enough, resulting in a drive/guide combo that will never fit inside the enclosure. You could drop the drive in without the guides, but then it rattles around touching the walls. I have no idea how the product got past inspectors but I find it hard to believe that I got the rare bad one. These are manufacturing issues. At any rate, I returned it. Thank you, Amazon!

Seems an adequate case - however, although not stated on Amazon info, or mentioned by reviewers, it claims to support hard drives up to 1.5 Tb only. That makes it far less useful to me than I'd expected, and it may be going back..... that information should have been made clear here, but it is not. There's a picture of the packaging, but way too small for the details to be legible. With 2Tb drives being common, and pleanty of 3Tb around (what I planned to use), this is basically old tech, despite its USB 3.0 capability. I may try it with a larger drive, though, as these limits are often wrong. If I do, I'll update this comment (I won't call it a review, as it's not - like most of the comments on Amazon). Incidentally, I got a black one - nicer, IMHO, but your mileage may vary......

First Update - via Sabrent Support:
"HelpDesk Message: it should work with up to 2tb."
