Product Description

Description:
The Sabrent CRW-UINB is a simple PC desktop upgrade that lets you add an Internal Card Reader to the front panel (3.5″) of your desktop, by connecting to an existing USB header on your motherboard (Most Pentium 2 and newer motherboards have them, and most are not used). The Sabrent reader is equipped with 7 slots to accommodate all the latest models of flash media on the market today, including the latest SDHC/SDXC, Micro SDHC/SDXC and M2 slots. Sharing the data is quick and easy between media types or to the PC. Plus, you gain easy access to an additional USB 2.0 port on your front panel. The fully-enclosed aluminum housing provides secure installation, while effectively dissipating heat; and two LEDs quickly confirm power and activity. Provides full USB 2.0 speeds of up to 480 mbps; reverse compatible with USB 1.1.

Features:
* Compliant with USB 2.0
* The 6 card reader slots include all formats of the following flash media types: M2, XD, SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC, Micro SD/SDHC/SDXC (T-flash) CF/MD, MS (Some card may require adapter)
* Plus 1 x USB 2.0 port

System requirements:
* Available 9-pin USB header on the Motherboard.
* Windows 2000/XP/VISTA/7 (32-bit and 64-bit versions)

Customer Questions & Answers

Customer Reviews

The only thing that worked was the USB port.
D. Kirchmeier
The primary reason I purchased this was for the XD and micro SD slot which is great, no more USB card reader adapters to deal with.
Brandon
It does what it's supposed to do, but it has a really bright LED that stays on all the time.

I purchased this to use in a newly built computer. Plugged it into the USB header on the motherboard, and Vista it assigned it 4 drive letters with no drivers needed. So far I've only used the SD slot and the USB port, both work fine.

It would be nice if you could disable the slots you don't need, but no multi reader offers this. All in all, a great bargain.

Pros:
- Was an upgrade from my now decade old 4 card memory reader.
- Plug and pray, erm, play!
- Solid and simple build
- Power light on card reader is on as long as there is main power
- Compatible with a very wide range (most) of media types

Cons:
- Cornfirmed will not read SmartMedia
- Can only read 1 card at a time (ex. Can't read/see a SD and a MicroSD card at the same time)
- Power light on card reader is on as long as there is main power
- Slots are tricky to get small cards into (SD, MicroSD)
- (Could be good or bad) No documentation, software, or support. It either works or it doesn't; generic drivers.

The card reader is... "OK." Compared to others that are out there, it was the right price (especially free since it was an X-mas present), and didn't have another 50 USB ports to fill up with dust. I already have 12 external USB ports, didn't need more!

The power light is blue, R/W light is white which is pretty cool. The power light is BRIGHT, the previous reviews aren't an exaggeration. Think LED keychain light. The other "feature" is that the power light is on at all times as long as the system has power; even if the machine is powered "off" but you still have the main power on (plugged in and/or with the PSU switch on) then the power light of the card reader will be on.

The slots on the card reader are tricky. More than once I've almost pushed a MicroSD card in between the card slot and the faceplate, and into the body of the reader! Just be sure you line up the card straight and watch for the white LED to turn on before running it home.

Other than the addition of a USB port (which is definitely welcome), the Sabrent "grossly inflated number-in-one" reader is basically the same "cheapest you can get me" reader that every store sells.

It isn't particularly fast. It doesn't look particularly nice. It isn't built particularly well. The only thing that's especially notable, is that the 3.5" device isn't sized properly. In no less than three cases (Antec, Silverstone, and Thermaltake), the reader had to be balanced by screws in the bay of the cases that weren't tool-less to be even. On the tool-less Thermaltake case, the reader is just small enough that it'll pop out of the retaining clip if you're not extra gentle.

Since the reader itself is so mediocre, there's no reason to put up with the unfortunate manufacturing problem.

This product says "Hi-Speed" the transfer rate was horrible. I would say about the speed of USB 1.1 . Also the construction is terrible too, the metal case it cheap and sharp so it cuts into the cable coming out of the back. The casing is also poorly designed and pops apart without any effort. Non the less I returned it and am using an external USB 2.0 version which is lightening fast. If you do photography and have several gigs of data to transfer do not buy this item.

For less then fifteen bucks how can you NOT add such a functional little reader to your computer. I actually installed this instead of an 3.5" floppy as I have no real use for a floppy now-a-days. This reader reads 64 different types of cards using 4 different input slots. It also has a handy USB port on the front of it. Since you need to use a USB motherboard port, adding the USB port on the front makes up for any lost ports if your motherboard doesnt have many USB connections. The only gripe I have with this reader is that it makes 4 drives in your "My Computer" (1 for each input.) I understand that there is no way to get around this and although its not that big of a deal it does clutter up your "My Computer" with a bunch of needless drive letters.

4 out of 5 stars.

The only thing I found wrong with this unit is the ports do not line up perfectly with the front face plate, but what do you expect if you are paying under 15 bucks for the unit that is a 68 in 1. I do have quick swap drives in my puter, which do to the size of the unit I did have to use the included screws to lock it in place. As for how it works, I transfered 2 gigs of picture from my SDHD card in no time flat compared to other units I have had. Maybe from the post of another that said it was slow, was not due to the unit but their own computer. My system is custom and top end so that could be my advantage. I am very pleased with the unit, the transfer rate, the ease of installation. Also the fact that I had to do nothing with drivers or installation. Also it is compatible with Windows 7, which a couple other units I tried did not work correctly even though they said they were compatible.
Its a great buy for the price, and if you are a prime member then its free shipping in 2 days. Thats less then I would spend going to the local computer store in gas alone.
