Product Description

Description:
Add up to 4 peripherals quickly and easily with the Sabrent 4-Port USB 3.0 Hub. The thin, lightweight design makes this hub a great travel companion to expand one USB 3.0 port into four. Especially great for notebooks which come with only a few ports in an era when you need to attach many USB devices at once, such as a printer, card reader, cell phone, iPod, thumb drive, mouse, keyboard, or an external hard drive. Fully backwards compatible with the USB 2.0/1.1 products.

Features:
* Number of ports: 1(input) / 4(output)
* Transfer speed: 5GB (USB3.0/HS), 480Mbps (USB2.0/HS), 12Mbps (USB1.1/FS)

System Requirements:
* Available USB port on the computer.
* Windows: 2000/XP/Vista/7/8 (Both 32-bit & 64-bit versions)
* MAC: OS X and Above

Please Note:
2.4Ghz wireless devices, such as wireless keyboard and mouse adapters, may not work in close proximity to USB 3.0 devices or hubs. Connecting to a USB 2.0 port is recommended.

For a stable connection, the devices connected to the 4-Port USB 3.0 Hub must not exceed a combined current of 5 volts 900 mAh. External hard-drives should be connected to an external power source. This 4-Port USB 3.0 Hub will not charge an iPad (it will only sync).

What's in the box?
* 4-port USB 3.0 hub.
* 9" built-in Cable.

EDIT: I just noticed that amazon have now got the powered and unpowered hubs listed under the same heading and therefore the reviews are mixed together. This review is for the unpowered hub.

I received one of these direct from the company to try out. They have not asked for or suggested that I write a favourable review, they have left me to write what I want good or bad.

The problem with my notepad is that there are only 2 x USB ports and they are too close to each other. The USB 3.0 pen drives I have are so wide that they crowd out the other port. Result is I can only use one pen drive at a time. If you are having the same problem, then this is the device for you.

When I received this I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was light, compact and the idea of having a port on each side meant no more overcrowding regardless of how fat the pen drive is. I managed to plug in 2 USB 3.0 pen drives and an external SSD drive and all were detected, displayed and were usable and on top of that I could charge my iPhone.

A few things you will need to bear in mind with ALL un-powered USB hubs:
They obviously share the same power supply and as such if you are plugging in power hungry devices then some may not work.
As they are plugged into the same port, you may not get the full speed of the devices if using them all at the same time eg copying to one to another whilst reading from a third/forth.
If plugging into a USB extension lead (including front panels on towers and desktops) then you may experience further power loss as the lead may cause a drop. If this happens try plugging it directly into a port mounted on the motherboard.

I don't know for sure if USB 3.0 has the same problems as USB 2.

the cord is the perfect length for keeping things close to my laptop.... the placement of the inputs is ideal (most other hubs line up so close to each other they sometimes don't fit)

This USB 3.0 hub worked as expected. No issues with the devices, I have it connected to two 3.5 usb external hard-drive in USB 3.0 mode. Speed is appropriate as expected, not significant or noticeably slower than the when connected directly.

Pro: Small size, 4 ports, look sufficiently durable and portable.
Cons: USB is still slightly new, there are multiple chipsets that have some issues at times, VIA chipsets often have issues with compatibility, I do have believe this to be a VIA type. Bus powered, so no 2.5 usb hard-drives.

We are using this hub on a Windows surface pro 2. It has only one USB3 port and now the hub enables 4 USB ports.

USB 3 is so fast and now other devices are available concurrently. This hub is perfect.

It works with my desk top, ultrabook, transformer and laptop PCs with both USB 2 (A & B) and USB 3 connectivity. It supports 2 USB3 flash memory and SSD drives simultaneously, have not tried 3 or 4 drives or with non-SSD hard drives simultaneously. For use with flash memory or SSD drives, I gave it a 5 star.

Works Great, no power issues, installed fine. Sorry if it's not horribly comprehensive, but just expect the cable to be very short. Better buy an extension if you'll need it!

I picked one of these up as I have the need for at least 5 devices to be connected, sometimes all at once. For the price you are getting a great value here. Hassle free, worked out of the box and no problems.
