Also made easy to recognize my external hard driver and wireless keyboard/mouse so far.

The 8" USB cord should be long enough for use with most laptops.

**[Please check out the video review for a more thorough review and added information]**

I have now had this hub from Sabrent for 3-4 weeks and it is awesome! It's small, quiet, portable, and looks great while providing great speed for transferring data. The added (optional) power adapter adds the ability to use multiple large current devices such as external drives without getting the dreaded "Not enough power" message when you overload your USB ports.

I purchased this to supplement the 2 USB ports on my macbook pro. I always want to have my iPhone cable, iPod shuffle cable, external drive, and occasionally a flash drive attached to my computer. Before a hub, this was not possible.

I previously had the Plugable USB 2.0 10 Port Hub (with Power Adapter) and it was alright. It's only USB 2.0 so it's not as fast. If you're not familiar with USB 3.0, it transfers data faster. The great thing is that even if you do not know if your computer has USB 3.0, it's backwards comparable meaning that it will work on any computer which is awesome!!

Pros:
-No annoying LED lights
-Lightweight
-Portable
-Nice brushed aluminum look

Cons:
For my purpose, the cord is a little shorter than what I would like as I typically use this at my desk and like to hide the hub. However the reason that the cable is so short is so it's very portable

Overall, this is a great hub that will definitely replace my old Pluggable hub that I have now. This is going to be purchased for some holiday gifts!

Before proceeding I want to disclose that I received a review sample from the manufacturer. Another point I need to make is some models on this page come with switches and indicator lights. The sample I received is the same part number as what is listed in the product details for HB-B4U3, so if you read reviews that discuss switches or lights that is not the model I am reviewing.

I tested this on an older Dell PC and an Acer netbook, both running Windows XP and it worked perfectly on both. More importantly, not only did this hub connect to my Galaxy Note II phone for data transfers, but it also charged it. Not all hubs that I have tested in the past would charge the phone.

This hub operated perfectly with all four ports filled (a mouse, a high-speed wireless G adapter, my phone and a camera. I used the wireless G adapter to route between two networks with my built-in wireless adapter while downloading photos from the camera and transferring files from my phone. All this over the slower USB 2.0 port on my computer. Had I been equipped with USB 3.0 it would have been even faster, so I am impressed with the hub's electrical level construction.

The physical hub is also impressive. It has a plastic case with an an aluminum top. That not only provides a sturdier housing than many of the plastic body hubs on the market, but I am sure it also reduces radio frequency interference (I have no means to measure that aspect so am guessing.) Another thing about the physical construction that impressed me is the heavy gauge cable (a short pigtail, actually) and the strain reliefs at both the USB and hub ends. Sabrent did not cut any corners.

There are times when you need additional USB hubs - many new laptops are so compact that they only come with two USB ports (I am looking at you Mac Book Pros). The Sabrent 4 port USB hub is very compact but allows you to expand the number of USB ports without any type of complications.

Notes-

- Provides three side USB ports and one on the end

- Does not require external power which means there are no additional required cables - but it also means that you will not be able to charge devices.

- The total power usage is 900ma - so it will power external hard drives and such, but keep in mind that it has limits due to the lack of external power

- Worked as plug and play with my Mac

- Very good transfer speeds - up to 5Gbs with USB 3.0 devices

- Small enough to be very portable - roughly about 2/3 the size of a deck of cards

Final Verdict - The Sabrent 4 port USB is small enough to travel with, but still allows you to add 4 USB ports to your computer.

4 1/2 Stars

Note - I received this product in exchange for an unbiased review

I was provided a Sabrent 7-Port Portable USB 3.0 Hub with 4A Power Adapter for testing and review and was asked only to give my honest review, so this is what I found.

What You Should Know Before You Buy:
♦ It has 7 high speed USB 3.0 ports, giving you 6 more USB 3.0 ports available on your computer.
♦ Has a high powered 4 Amp Power Adapter that allowed for charging multiple devices and power banks at the same time.
♦ Simple Plug-and-Play installation with no separate driver installation required.
♦ Had fast transfer speeds in excess of 130MB/s Read and Write to a Hard Drive in a Docking Station, but I had trouble maintaining a connection to the drive. It lost connection and the drive became inaccessible on all three of my tries.

Conclusion:
This USB hub has some nice features, but I had problems getting connecting to my hard drive docking station. It showed fast transfer speeds, but the drive became inaccessible before the benchmarking test completed all three times I tried. I had no trouble with any of the other hubs that I tested at the same time and I had no problems with the hard drive docking station connected directly to my computer immediately after my testing. While this hub has some nice features and showed some promising performance, I can't recommended it based on my testing.

=========================

UPDATE (01/12/2014):
I received a replacement hub from Sabrent to make sure that I didn't get a defective unit and I did some re-tests. I essentially had the same problems that I had before. Once I plugged in this hub and plugged in my hard drive docking station, it became inaccessible and would not come back once I removed the hub. I had to reboot to get my hard drive back.
