With all the hype deservedly surronding Cuban Music these days, thanks largely to the awesome Buena Vista spinoffs, one hopes curious listeners will go back and try to discover the original stuff. Look no further than Mongo Santamaria's "Sabroso!" This album never lets up from its fever pitch start. The rhythms are of course excellent, but what makes this a truly wonderful recording is the quality of the songwriting, and the infectious vocal arrangements. You can't help singing along even if you don't know a lick of Spanish. Willie Bobo and Mongo's percussion, and Rolando Lozano's muscular flute solos, help churn out the groove too. If the words muscular and flute don't sound like they belong together, just listen to the disc, and you'll agree with me afterwards.

Great charanga with unique chombo & Pupi violins, plus lead
vocals of R. Calzado make this cd a must.

This CD is fantastic. You will enjoy every moment. My favorite is the beautiful Para Ti. My only regret is the followup CD Mas Sabroso is not available.
