4.0 out of 5 stars Camille - Le Sac de Filles
I was impressed with the catchy sound of this record from the very first track, "1,2,3" and it only grew on me. Camille Dalmais doesn't have a strip-paint-from-sheet-metal kind of voice, but she chooses good material that fits her sound.

The lyrics are ironic and sly, and worth repeated listens. The title track, pointing out that man's ultimate question is...

3.0 out of 5 stars It's Alright...
I felt this album was poor in comparison to Le Fil. There are some catchy songs on this album, but the overall album was a hit or miss for me. The only songs i liked were 1,2,3 and Paris. After that i felt like most of the songs sounded the same or just didn't have the same catchiness as those tunes. But Sac Des Filles is an okay album, it's not necessarily bad, but i...

4.0 out of 5 stars Camille - Le Sac de Filles, October 15, 2004
This review is from: Le Sac des Filles (Audio CD)
I was impressed with the catchy sound of this record from the very first track, "1,2,3" and it only grew on me. Camille Dalmais doesn't have a strip-paint-from-sheet-metal kind of voice, but she chooses good material that fits her sound.

The lyrics are ironic and sly, and worth repeated listens. The title track, pointing out that man's ultimate question is "what's in the girl's purse?" is a winner; it has a catchy, pop beat. I also like the wordplay on "Les Ex," a song about ex-lovers. Since the lyrics are included in the booklet, it's a good record for French students to sing along with.

If you like intelligent lyrics and snappy tunes you will like this record. Think Catatonia in French, not Welsh.

5.0 out of 5 stars Merveilleux!, September 30, 2004
This review is from: Le Sac des Filles (Audio CD)
Imagine Fiona Apple meets Damien Rice in vintage Cannes. Rich acoustics, satisfying sounds, and poetic French vocals. For me this CD is not just a keeper but a 'play until the tracks are worn right off the disc. Then buy another.' [Mrs. Readwell's recommendation: Allons-y! We must buy! Buy!]

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple but grand, September 30, 2005
This review is from: Le Sac des Filles (Audio CD)
I fell upon this CD after hearing one song from Camille's more recent album and I loved it. Not the typical music that usually listen too but some songs are just undeniably great. I admit there are some songs that I haven't even grown to love or listen too but tracks 3,5,6,7 and of course the amazing finale "La ou je suis nee"... I can simply keep that song on repeat.
The album is mostly vocal with some tracks having great instrumentals, Camille loves to plays with her voice and we love her for that.
The lyrics are quite simple, but damn smart with a lot of emotions just under the surface.
If you feel like something different and trying something new... take a chance on Camille either this album or "Le fil" the newer one and you at least be intrigued.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Sensation in Paris, July 8, 2003
This review is from: Le Sac des Filles (Audio CD)
I was introduced to Camille's song 1, 2, 3 while in Paris this June 2003. I was studying French and our teacher brought the song to us because the vocabulary was appropriate for us as beginners. My teacher was also very enthusiastic about Camille as an artist. I liked 1, 2, 3 and bought the CD in Paris. Since returning to the US I've listened to it many times and it am very fond of the music. It grows and grows on me. This is Camille's very first CD and she's becoming quite a sensation in Paris. Perhaps she'll be welcomed this side as well.

But Sac Des Filles is an okay album, it's not necessarily bad, but i think Le Fil by far is her best album, and shows signs that she's definitely a talented French artist. I look forward to hearing more works from her.

2.0 out of 5 stars okay but not as good as "Le Fil", January 27, 2011

I really like her album "Le Fil" and this album didn't measure up to my expectations. She has talent but this one didn't suit my tastes. It was okay but not great.

My teeth are rotting away but I'm still chewing up this oh so sweet confection. I should be sick to my stomach by now. Her next disc though is an all together different kind of treat.
