About the Author

Ruth Ann Oskolkoff received a Certificate in Poetry Writing from the University of Washington, and an M.A. in Humanities from California State University, Dominguez Hills. Her fields of interest are sacred space, liminality, interfaith studies, and the spirituality found in nature. Ruth was born in Seattle and chose to return to it after several years away. She now lives and works in Seattle and finds a rootedness here in the steady rain, green trees, and ever present clouds. To her, writing poetry is a meditation of awareness, and observation of the flow of life and it passes both inside herself and in the world around her. She hopes the reader will be reminded of their own importance, and the critical beauty of each moment of life.

The book is an enjoyable read which beneath its vivid imagery subtly conveys distinct feelings and impressions across multiple layers.
Without a doubt my favorite poem from this work is Market Raga. It has strong visuals and a genuine feeling of a Seattle market. The poem is divided into three segments which depict a revolution of a continuing cycle and each section has its own feeling that corresponds to its place in the cycle.

This selection of poems was a joy to read and reread. The author spins descriptive tales of culture and nature. The way in which she weaves words catches the spirit of those she writes about. Her poem, "Dream of the Three Worlds," is especially strong visually. I recommend this book to anyone wishing to explore poetry in a new light.

I found "Sacramentals" to be a lovely volume of poetry... it is one which I can pick up, read a bit, and be uplifted immediately. To find the sacred within the mundane via poignant observations by the poet is one way it uplifts. Another is the reminder to celebrate wildness, to look for ways it presents, and offers its wisdom. "Curve of a Boundary" is one of my favorite poems in the volume. I salute the poet for bringing the sublimity of life into awareness through this work. Perfect for these fast-paced times.
