4.0 out of 5 stars "I am a very stylish girl"!
I'll admit it, I never heard of Dimitri from Paris before. I had no idea who this group or guy was, but when I heard the infectious loungy-groovy "Une Very Stylish Fille" on the new Volvo commercial for the s80 - I was hooked. I had to e-mail Volvo to find out who did the song that continually samples that lady saying "I am a very stylish girl"...

versus
2.0 out of 5 stars Breathe the French 'AIR' instead......
not exactly pittzicatto, not exactly spy-jazz, and definietly not as good as their fellow french 'Air' ensemble....he just played this at a club, not a lounge...what's with that? good tunes, but better elsewhere

I had to e-mail Volvo to find out who did the song that continually samples that lady saying "I am a very stylish girl". When I got my response I went out to get the CD, thinking I would like just that one song...but to my suprise, the whole disc is fun. Alot of the songs are very catchy in a toe-tapping way. And the ones that aren't are great lounge music... Play this CD this summer for your next Bar-b-Q party. You'll see what I mean.

Ce matin La....oh, sorry.
Dimitri has been an arhetype in flowing electronic funk for a while. And this being one of his later albums is no exception. He incorporates smooth funk with olde-time parisian groove into such magical coordination you'd think you were in the Bohemian city itself in 1966. Almost all tracks include "mixes" from either French or American cinema (Une Very Stylish Fille being a perfect example from Audrey Hepburn's 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'). But with that being said, there are some tracks that appear rather redundant in their mixing, and can get abrasive at times. But with the majority being a smooth Jet-Set I'm-Frank-Sinatra-and-I-can-do-what-I-want theme, this album will be an original addition to the mod electro-philes out there looking for something more bohemian and less blase (that's a french word right?).

5.0 out of 5 stars Manifique!, May 17, 2000

Dimitri from Paris has put together a beautiful, pumping, flowing, stylish, progressive, musical, experimental, wonderful production.

Bloody funky, perfect for a club, while you're driving, background music in a great cafe, at a friends place or just in the mood for some great sounds, old and new...

He has written and recorded some brilliant songs, particularly "Free Ton Style", "Un Terlude", "Un Very Stylish Fille" - actually all of the songs have great resonance and imagination.

The best story of this album is that when I first listened to it, I was driving; by the third track I was so impressed I pulled over and turned it up - sitting on the edge of the road for most of the album, just listening intently.

A great find - if you can still get it...

5.0 out of 5 stars Sacrebleu! this is good!, April 12, 2004
This review is from: Sacrebleu (re-release) (Audio CD)
Dimitri has been around for a long time, and like many other good electro musicians he's from France. He's been remixing loads of artists in the past before he decided to make a own album. Sacrebleau was actually released in the late 90's i think, this is a re-release for US. This album includes almost 20 songs and it's a great variety of music styles, you'll find everything from Air sounding relax songs to boss nova to Daft Punk sounding electro. Dimitri always adds cool samples and funny voices and he's a master of synths. "Une very stylish fille" is a good example of that. It has that retro sound with funky samples and a female voice. It's probably his most famous song aswell. "Attente Musicale" is another slow song with the frenchman's voice(?), it has got a wonderful Sound & Melody just like many other songs on the album. For those of you that enjoy groups like Air and Röyksopp, you'll love this. Dimitri won't dissapoint when it comes to slow songs with wonderful sound and with the addition of cool samples and vocals it will only improve. Must have album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastique!, February 26, 2002
This review is from: Sacrebleu (re-release) (Audio CD)
This is a supersonic ride to the Cote D'Azur dans the groovy 60's.
By far one of the superior DJ mix Cd's ever. Dimitri takes campy 60's French Pop, Film and Culture and weaves an electronica beat to die for dahhhling.

Get out your Ready to Wear, shake up that martini and light me a gitanes!!

Moi Fois!

5.0 out of 5 stars J'adore Monsieur Dimitri!!!, July 15, 2001
This review is from: Sacrebleu (re-release) (Audio CD)
This album is fantastique! Although his french is dodgy (Une Very Stylish Fille) the music is not. He clearly had so much fun recording it, and you will have fun listening! This would be the soundtrack to a very chilled out weekend in Paris, sipping champagne. Fantastic bossa-nova rhythms, and well chosen samples abound. Buy this, kick back, and enjoy a martini!

4.0 out of 5 stars Une disque superbe, December 19, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Sacrebleu (re-release) (Audio CD)

4.0 out of 5 stars Tres Bien for the effort, Monsieur Dimitri...!!!, March 3, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sacrebleu (re-release) (Audio CD)
I had just one chance to watch the very nice "SACRE FRANCAIS" video on TV, some years ago (couldn't notice if it was aired on VH1 or MTV), and forgot almost immediately the name of the song and performer... But I couldn't forget the catchy rhythm and the 'sticky' voice of the girl repeating 'Sacre Francais!' almost ten or twenty times...

This Electronica/Chill Out/Lounge album is quite fun and relaxing to listen! It made me twice happy, when I found it had also the theme "Une Very Stylish Fille" (sorry if it's misspelled, I'm not very good with French language, even when I like to listen it a lot!).

If you want to give a different tocuh to your "Relax music" collection, this CD is for you!
