5.0 out of 5 stars Hauntingly Beautiful
It's easy, especially on listening to the Misere on this recording, to close your eyes and find yourself in the tall main hall of a 16th century church listening to this beautiful combination of brass and voice. 2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
This CD includes some of the finest brass playing that I have heard. Unfortunately, it overwhelms the vocal parts especially in the Palestrina mass.

It's easy, especially on listening to the Misere on this recording, to close your eyes and find yourself in the tall main hall of a 16th century church listening to this beautiful combination of brass and voice. The voice has an almost surealistic sound to it in the manner in which it's blended with the brass.

Conductor Ivars Taurins scholarly knowledge of early music comes out beautifully in this recording in the manner in which he blends the French horn of Christopher Cooper with the trumpets of Jens Lindemann and Ronald Romm and the trombones of Eugene Watts and Charles Daellenbach with the voices of Ariel Harwood Jones, Mary Beth Daellenbach, Laura Pudwell, David Arnot, and John Pepper.

This is a beautiful recording and I highly recommend it for anyone who loves the sound of well blended brass.

This is so mellow and reverent. CB's ability to blend and highlight each other is so displayed here on this recording of sacred cantatas, etc. from the 16th Century, including Palestrina, Allegri.

My favorite is track 2, Misere, which flows so magnificently.

Brilliant bringing to life this music most of us are unfamiliar with, now executed by the premier brass ensemble of our time.
