I bought this recording a few years ago after hearing about it on National Public Radio. The monks vocal abilities are outstanding, it is truly ethereal. As Thupten Nyandak, Assistant Director of the monastery says: `It is a sound offering to whom we are praying', and a wonderful offering to the human listener.

Let me just say that I thought this was just perfect. The range of overtones was something i've never heard before and the sparse instrumentation was as intense as it was beautiful. This is one of the best sounding and most spiritual recordings i've ever heard. If you want to find out the meaning of life get this cd.

Sacred Ceremonies: Ritual Music Of Tibetan Buddhism
Excellent meditative and listening experience in Tibetan meditation, chanting and prayer. I highly recommend it. As a practicing Buddhist who has studied with a Tibetan Lama, I find this top quality in listening experience.

Indeed this is just about as authentic Tibetan music will come to our shores, ripped right from the temple and packaged for our convenience. Though unless listeners are purchasing for specific, probably meditation-guided purposes, the aesthetics can wear thin with repetition, and only the final track is afforded the lengthy space to extend itself past touristy trappings. |
