Book Description

September 6, 2005
Adrian Plass lovers got their initial baptism of laughter through his bestseller, The Sacred Diary of Adrian Plass (aged 37 3/4). The author's account of 'serious spiritual experiences' naturally made him in demand as a public speaker -- so of course another diary was inevitable. The Sacred Diary of Adrian Plass, Christian Speaker (aged 45 3/4) continues the misadventures of Adrian's fictional alter-ego. As Plass gathers regularly with his support group, we meet old friends, including his longsuffering wife, Anne; son Gerald, now grown but no less irrepressible; loony and loveable Leonard Thynn; Edwin, the wise church elder; and Richard and Doreen Cook, who are just as religious as ever. We also meet some new characters, such as Stephanie Widgeon, who only seems to have one thing to say, ever. . . and who knows, we might even find out why Leonard Thynn borrowed Adrian's cat all those years ago. And finally -- what is a banner ripping seminar?

THE SACRED DIARIST IS BACK --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From the Back Cover

This is the book that all Adrian Plass fans have been waiting for--the sequel to the book that launched him as the UK's best-selling Christian author. Ten years later, what has become of the outrageous Gerald, the joyless Flushpools, the incompetent Leonard, the longsuffering Anne and all the other characters that became household names in the Christian market? If they have changed, so too has the world in which they live and the church to which they belong. Ever anxious to keep in step with the Holy Spirit, their enthusiasm frequently lands them in trouble of various kinds, and, as ever, they find it hard to accept the simplest truth of all--that they are loved just for who they are. While Adrian, to his great surprise, finds himself as a sought after Christian speaker and the harder he tries to be serious, the more his audiences laugh! --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars ANOTHER HONEST BLAST AT RELIGION, November 15, 2000
Plass has done it again! He takes the ordinary things we religious people do and puts them under the microscope of reality. As we see ourselves as we really are we have to laugh, cry and realize that Jesus really is nice and he likes us IN SPITE OF THE SILLY THINGS WE DO. This diary shows us a more mature, thoughtful diary writer than before. All the family and friends are there, and I had a definite feeling that my knowledge of them was growing deeper.

Don't be afraid to read this if you are a Christian. It doesn't make fun of Jesus, but of us. This is something that we are certainly deserving of, and Plass delivers a healthy dose of humourous-medicine that challenges our status quo and invites us to run giggling into the arms of the One who loves us so much He'd rather die than live without us!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, August 28, 1999
By A Customer
This was the third book by Adrian Plass I read and it's just as good, probably better than the others. The humour isn't quite as silly and it's much deeper. A wonderful, heartwarming book.

This review is from: The Sacred Diary of Adrian Plass, Christian Speaker, Aged 45 3/4 (Paperback)
Not everyone gets Plass' humor, but if you can get into the mind of the man writing the diaries you get a wonderful ride! He has a wonderful way of expressing loving honesty about the faults and foibles of God's people, and the inner struggles that most of us face trying to live out a faith that is sometimes over our heads. I love this book! It's light, easy reading, and if you are willing not to take yourself and your religion too terribly seriously you will enjoy this book a lot.
