God is nice and He likes you.,
By
This review is from: Sacred Diary of Adrian Plass Aged 37 3/4 by Plass, Adrian; Donovan, Dan (Paperback)
Adrian Plass manages to communicate the simple--and most profound truths--while making us laugh at ourselves. This is a book that I read at least once a year. In the midst of all of our "working for the Lord," Plass reminds us that first and foremost, God was us to KNOW Him. After all, "God is nice and He likes us."

Roll on the floor, Cry your eyes out funny,

This review is from: Sacred Diary of Adrian Plass Aged 37 3/4 by Plass, Adrian; Donovan, Dan (Paperback)
I've read this book about three or four times now and I can safely say that it is the absolute funniest piece of Church humour I've ever read.Scratch that. This is THE funniest book I've ever read. The first time I read it, I was rolling on the floor and crying. My wife and I will still sometimes just pick it up and start reading bits from it to each other for a few minutes of hilarity. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Your enjoyment will be greatly increased if you've spent time attending an evangelical church. It also helps to know that the book was written by a Brit and includes a number of references to people and practices that may be lost on those not from the UK. Buy this book. It may not change your life but it'll be sure to give you a much needed break from your read through Calvin's "Institutes".

Honest and Funny Mirror of Real Church Life,
By Stephan (Germany) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Sacred Diary of Adrian Plass Aged 37 3/4 (Paperback)
Honest book. Too direct for some? On my opinion, one of the best contemporary Christian books. It simply describes Evangelical Church Life. In a funny way. But be careful. You should have humour.. In the beginning, I had regarded the book as nearly blasphemous: when becoming a Christian I regarded my Church as perfect and did not want to see the human error we all commit. All my Christian friends like it and it's a good laugh and makes us think. As a Chrstian, a book I do not want to miss.

AMAZING!,

well i have read this book soo many times - and no matter how many times i read it, it still continues to have me in stitches of laughter imagining Adrian doing such hilarious things e.g. trying to order a paper clip to move, and him making sure that there isn't anything wrong with him before he goes to a 'healing' meeting! And the continous anagrams that Gerald his son comes up with are great! If you are a christian and have not read this book - you are missing out big time!

Ranks next to the Bible in greatness!,

I just finished The Sacred Diary for the fifth time. The verdict was in the first time through, but life seems to brighten so much more on subsequent readings that it has now become part of my daily quiet time (jk). I have loaned my copy to over 40 people, every one of whom raved about it, but I finally loaned it out once too often and it never came back. Thanks to a friend who loaned me his copy, I was able to reattach myself to this excellent read. What I can't understand is why the book is unavailable, at least in the States and so far here in Singapore. I've never seen a book with more popular appeal and yet 40 people are forced to read the same copy of the book. When will a bigger publisher grab this book up and distribute it as it should be? All I can say is that this book will get at the funny bone of all Christians (except, perhaps, the Mrs. Flushpools). But it will also help you shake off some of those rags of religion that you were never intended to wear. Plass summarizes the gospel succinctly: God is nice and He likes you. Let's not complicate it more than we have to. Start by reading this book.

My wife and I both laughed out loud... Repeatedly.,
This review is from: The Sacred Diary of Adrian Plass, Aged 37 3/4 (Paperback)
We both thouroughly enjoyed this book. Funny, without being sacreligious. Probably funnier to an active Christian as many of the jokes are 'insider' jokes that wouldn't be funny to a non-christian.
I'm planning to buy/read more of Mr. Plass' books based on this one.

This book got me addicted to Plass!,

Friends in the UK sent us this book a few years ago, and I can't thank them enough. Adrian Plass has now outranked Frank Peretti and Max Lucado as my favorite author of all time. He has an amazing ability to make the reader laugh out loud, and on occasion, even cry. I am an avid reader and no other writer has ever touched my soul the way that Plass does. Whenever I am having a particularly rough day, I read a few favorite parts of this book and I find the stress melting away.Do yourself a favor and start building a library of his works. I am doing that now, and can honestly say that I have not been disappointed by anything I have read so far. If you live in the US, it can be hard to find Plass's books. But it is well worth the investment and the time. Excellent, excellent book!

THANCYOO MR PLASS,

I simply adore this book! I can't imagine not having readit. Gerald Plass is my dream date; I'm not kidding. It is completelyimpossible not to smile while reading Plass's works. I strongly suggest that you read his other works, such as The Horizontal Epistles of Andromeda Veal, the Theatrical Tapes of Leanord Thynn (even if it doesn't explain the cat...) and the second sacred Diary, I believe it's 41 3/4. I'm not sure. But read it. I just really think it's sort of grand!

Beyond Hilarious,
This review is from: The Sacred Diary of Adrian Plass, Aged 37 3/4 (Paperback)
Anyone who's grown up in the church will appreciate the hilarious irreverance of Plass's writing. Have read several times, and it gets funnier with each read. Fabulous for anyone who appreciates good British humor, loves Jesus, and occasionally gets irked by his followers.

British humor, God's love - what a great combination,

This review is from: The Sacred Diary of Adrian Plass, Aged 37 3/4 (Paperback)
A light-hearted look into a Christian's struggle to be of more service to God, even though he feels completely unprepared, ill-equipped and lacking in talents and traits that would be so useful in ministry. It's a great moment when he realizes that if God called him into service, God knew what he was doing, and it is God's problem that he has all these deficiencies, not his.
