He became famous as a reassuring presence during Operation Desert Storm. He was the first black chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, a position he resigned to write his memoirs. Both major political parties consider him Presidential material. Clearly, the interest Colin Powell generates justifies purchasing this audiobook. Is it any good? Well, it's adulatory. Written by a press aide to Powell, the material concentrates more on setting Powell up as a role model than on digging up dirt. To be fair, though, aside from a little hell-raising in college, there seems to be little dirt to dig. Adding interest are chapters on Powell's differences with Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf (ret.) and the terms under which he might consider entering the political fray. All in all, buying this program will be money well spent. Even if it's not destined to be the best book on Powell, it is among the first to be adapted for audio.
