A lot of people read inspirational books to start the day. I've found that I like to read Sacred Intentions at the end of the day, especially those days where I feel like the whole world is against me and nothing has gone right. The authors have done a masterful job of putting together something that is truly inspirational, not sappy and sentimental, that helps you to remind you of what is really important.

A FANTASTIC MEDITATIVE READ,
By Deacon Ed (Coppell, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sacred Intentions: Daily Inspiration to Strengthen the Spirit Based on the Jewish Wisdom Tradition (Paperback)
First off, let me say that I am not Jewish. However, this has been to me one of the best meditative texts I have ever read. The two rabbis who wrote this book are very erudite, insightful and concise. You could spend hours reflecting on the beautiful thoughts they share with their readers. To have put so much thought and wisdom in so few words are just what "busy" people need in their rushed lives. The way I look at this book is like this: "It is such a wonderfully wisdom-filled book, I can't read it slowly enough."
I am a Catholic deacon and plan to use their brilliance in my future homilies. Rabbi Olitzky, apparently, is one of the most respected rabbis in the US and known for his interfaith work. He and Rabbi Forman have blessed me with their writings.

It is a very useful daily text.
As a member of 12 step programs I use a daily meditation reading each morning to commence my daily spiritual program. With this little book which has a daily "one liner" from Torah or Talmud we are led into a brief spiritual discussion and I find myself,at the end of each reading ,transported into a reflective state. This is a very well executed work and succinctly bridges the meditative and religious spiritual gap.

Good Discussion Tool,

Although some of the daily sayings are a little simplistic, most of them are good jumping off points for discussion. We try to read one every day with breakfast or dinner and find that we can spend a good half-hour debating the "moral issue" raised or even refer to the Bible to check out a point. It's definitely added something to our lives.
