This is not another book about being a leader. It is a blueprint for the specific kind of leadership it takes to accomplish the sacred work in our lives. I was hooked by the boat lift story in chapter one and his own story in chapter two. However, it was the vision of engaging for the greatest good that told me this was something profound. I've turned this little book into a handbook, marking sections and making notations at the points of my own learning. Chapter five begins with a great quote by Margaret Mead - "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." I hope that is exactly the group who pick up this timely gem and put it to work. This is not just life changing stuff, it's a real game changer for the World.

I appreciated the simplicity yet profound thoughts set forth in this book. As an educational consultant, author, community spokesperson, and board member serving one national board and one educational board, this book gave me clarity on how I want to show up and be seen. As a mother, this book spoke to my heart. I want to teach and model for my children a way to live in and change the world . . . with courage, compassion and leading for the "greatest good." Thank you James Davis for providing me a better way to serve my community and my family." Sacred Leadership: Leading for the Greatest Good

I had the privilege of attending a Leadership Seminar in my school district designed around Jim's beliefs as outlined in this book. The experience led me into my current position in administration and guided me as I lead my elementary school to high performing status. Now at the district office, I am reading Jim's book as a reminder of why I do what I do. In the chaos of reforms that has become public education, Jim is a leader with the vision to help leaders survive and THRIVE. I highly recommend this book to anyone who believes in value-based organizations and in Leading for the Greatest Good.

Jim Davis offers an accessible and important guide to 'sacred leaders' everywhere. His writing is rich with story, an honest and enlightening reflection on his own path -- his stumbles, his learning, and ultimately his success -- as a teacher then administrator inside some of the most challenging urban school environments. The ideas are practical, inspiring and applicable across fields, from education to business. Mostly, we learn that leadership is an ongoing practice that is rooted in conscious choice. Sacred Leadership is choosing to serve the greatest good.
