Book Description

February 1998
This rare and unique manuscript, from which the present work is translated, is a French translation from the original Hebrew of Abraham the Jew. I know of no other existing copy or replica of this in the British Museum whose enormous collection of manuscripts I have thoroughly studied. A fascinating book concerning Nicholas Flamel and his success with the Philosopher's Stone.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Book of Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage, March 29, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Book of the Sacred Magic of Abra-Melin (Paperback)
Abramelin is divided into three parts. The first part is the story of how Abraham, the ostensible author, came upon a man named Abramelin and this, his system of magick. Abraham spends plenty of time describing all of his endeavors, including having done magickal favors for a number of Emperors. He admonishes his son Lamech not to use this system for vain purposes. In the second part Abraham gives details of a ritual for invoking and communing with one's Holy Guardian Angel. This is the Great Work which Crowley mentions, and which he used as the basis for his Liber Seketh. In the third part, he gives a number of talismans, in the form of magic squares, which are used for various purposes, from scrying to changing the weather. If you only use one book of magic in your entire study, this is it. Thelemites, this book should be required reading, this is where Crowley got his ritual, the Great Work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good resource for Magick Squares, May 31, 2000
This review is from: Book of the Sacred Magic of Abra-Melin (Paperback)
This book is really a good reference for magickal squares and related stuff.I think, The main similarity of the magick systems for all kinds are this squares.I saw arabic and hebrew magickal squares before, by the help of this book I see the ones in Latin. The story part of Abramerlin is a little bit long and the book consist of some small booklets and the story of the mage. The latin meanings of squares are also given in the book which are both related with both demons and angels.Original MS writer is very related with Jewish and Kaballah but the book is very different from GoldenDawn teachings. He has given the wisdom or the disipline for using the book but I think it is very hard to practice. The translator of this book is S.L.Mathers who has got a good knowledge of occult.if you are intrested in TODO books(ex:Learn magick in 21 days) this is not for you.But if you like to study about sigils and symbols and their true meanings book will help you with your works. The one famous square SATOR,AREPO,TENET,OPERA,ROTAS cannot be seen on this book but one similar can be found with its discriptions.I love the book.It has a good concept and has a value of ancient studies.

1.0 out of 5 stars Good contents, but what a bad publication, August 14, 2001
By
This review is from: Book of the Sacred Magic of Abra-Melin (Paperback)
I won't go in to the contents of this book, but look at the quality of this publication. It is printed -I suspect even photocopied- onto really cheap, thin paper. The copy I had was badly glued together and not straight. Some footnotes are incomplete as if they were of the printable area. The margins of the pages vary throughout the book and text shines trough. It is not worth its price.

If you want this book, do order it from a different publisher. Dover has published it for instance.... You'll save money and get a good quality paperback.
