In response to an earlier review, I must say that this disc admirably represents the music that it sets out to - ritual Tibetan chant and temple music suitable for the religious ceremonies of a Mahayana Buddhist.

This music may sound strange to western ears at first, but it does have an ethos and profound sensibility behind it. Its beauty may not be immediately apparent to a "Top 40" culture, but the exposure is well worth it, if only to witness the expressions of art and beauty in other societies. That definition which is least "commonly accepted" may turn out to revolutionize the way you regard world music.

In addition, the monks of Drepung Loseling monastery, one of the collaborators of this disc, represent the survival of a true Tibetan culture in Indian exile. Since 1959 Tibet has been a province of China, and the monks such as those at Drepung Loseling preserve a heritage that reaches back thousands of years. Monies from the sale of this disc help them in their aims and support a remarkable institution aimed at promoting peace and understanding among all peoples.

Rather than immediately judge this disc, listen to the clips. And, if you don't care for it, you need not buy it. That's the beauty of previewing a cd on amazon - if you hear it, purchase it, and don't like it, it's no one's fault but your own. I think, however, that you will be surprised and intrigued by what this has to offer.

This CD is not for a romantic dinner background music. And not for trying to reach the sky, not for creating other dreams in your dream life :)
If you know what is real meditation, you know what this music is about. It is the essence. It is You. And so, you can not judge this as a music, you can not compare this to other music styles...

This music helps you to awake your true nature, the consciousness. Meditation music - what some of You would prefer - is for to imagine about nice and beautiful fields, nature etc. You will fall asleep if you are listening to that melodic, nice music. This CD doesnt make you sleep and it doesnt make you to forget what you are.
The real meditation is when you dont meditate, just Be. Pure.

(Sorry for poor English, i am not a native speaker in this language :) )

From the title, I expected this to be mellow, meditative music. Just because a music is made by spiritual monks does not necessarily mean it is going to be meditative or mellow or even listenable, I found out.

In fact, it's hard to even call this music. It's the sound of monks chanting in deep gutteral sounds, which in iteslf might not be too bad. But out of nowhere suddenly a very loud, jarring HORN appears, and jolts you out of your seat! I would say this is ANTI-meditative music! If you WERE able to get into a relaxed state via the deep gutteral sounds of the monks, the horns would jar you right out of it.

I don't see how this "music" is going to help heal the planet or any of its people! And it CERTAINLY isn't "danceable" in any any commonly accepted sense of the word.

And just for the record, I am not one who cannot accept abstract music or music that is "different". I like John Coltrane, I like some of the other chanting albums I've heard, I like some new age music, and I even like Captain Beefheart who many people classify with "noise". But this cd has no redeeming qualities, in my opinion. I am throwing it in the trash.
