5.0 out of 5 stars Spiritual breadth - engaging text and luscious illustration
A book every parent and child can share and enjoy fully. Although written as a "child's book", Marilyn McFarlane has brought together the widest range of spiritual experience and made it beautifully accessible and meaningful to every age. The engaging text and rich illustration make this a hard book to put down and a treasure for every home.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disturbing Images
I REALLY don't like the color photo manipulations. High saturated and reversed photo collages looking like an art student 'statement' of some sort. In my opinion they are jarring and frightening to both adult and child! It is hard to understand how this distorted imagery is supposed to appeal to children...

The stories are unfortunately on the brief side. Not enough...

4.0 out of 5 stars Fine introductory book for children on sacred myths, September 4, 1998

This review is from: Sacred Myths: Stories of World Religions (Hardcover)
I purchased Marilyn McFarlane's book for my three grandchildren, ages 8, 10, and 12. We have been reading the book aloud and then discussing the colorful illustrations. The sacred myths have spawned many questions from the children that we can research further. It's a wonderful introduction to the sacred myths and religions of the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful--compelling stories and stunning illustrations, September 2, 1998

This review is from: Sacred Myths: Stories of World Religions (Hardcover)
This is a book that belongs on every child's bookshelf! Not only are the stories themselves informative and entertaining, but the variety of stories under one cover representing so many different beliefs is in itself an illustration of the world's diversity. The stories are compelling, and the illustrations throughout are stunning. A wonderful gift for a child or adult.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully written and wonderfully visual., September 2, 1998

This review is from: Sacred Myths: Stories of World Religions (Hardcover)
Sacred Myths is a beautifully written and wonderfully visual book that explores the sacred myths, stories, and traditions of the world's major religions. The author, Mariyln McFarlane, has a crisp, clean style that's engaging and easy to read. We purchased this book for our 4-year-old god daughter, who has a multi-cultural background. But we couldn't put it down ourselves! Our god daughter has been riveted by both the pictures and the stories. It's become her favorite book. We'd highly recommend Sacred Myths for children and adults of all ages.

This book is a MUST READ for all ages. If we all kept these thoughts in mind, there would be more peace. Knowledge about other religions and how similar they all are would go a long way toward global compatibility.
