5.0 out of 5 stars Feeling overwhelmed? STOP, and read this book!
Excellent! The author gently guided me back to loving myself, and reminded me that without self-love, love for others is impossible! The bonus is that the book also includes inexpensive pampering ideas. A must read for ALL women, especially those who feel they are too busy to read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for ALL SBW. It's time to take care of ourselves, February 19, 1999
By A Customer
Debrena Jackson Gandy puts it all in a nutshell. It is time for all women (not only Afro American) to take time out of our lives do times that brings "us" joy. We as mothers, wives, teachers, etc...spend much of time nuturing other and we fail to realize that "we" are our main priority. I really enjoyed this book. Please read this book, it can make difference>>>Take the time! You deserve it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for all SBWs in Recovery, April 15, 2000
By A Customer
Do not pass this book by! For over a year I passed this book over on the library shelf until recently. The principles applied in this book will prove to be life affirming for recovering SBWs (Strong Black Women). If you aren't sure if you qualify as an SBW, then you will by the end of the first half of this book.

Gandy opens the book with an array of ancient principles from "Ra Un Neter Amen" to "The Holy Bible." She quotes from text and scriptures that apply to ancient pampering techniques and principles. She offers recipes for successfully incorporating these sacred pampering principles into your busy life. In addition the book is very easy to read. It can be read on the train to work, in the bathtub or right before you drift off to sleep at night. I encourage all African-American women of all ages to read this book in order to help improve your spiritual, mental and physical health and well-being. ~Peace and Blessings.

4.0 out of 5 stars Important for everyone, May 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Sacred Pampering Principles: An African-American Woman's Guide To Self-care And Inner Renewal (Hardcover)
I almost left this book at a vacation spot, and I'm glad I didn't. This book has had a significant influence on the way I view my life, and what I do to make it more satisfing. Its suggestions are clear-cut and helpful for anyone ready to head onto a path of self-understanding and acceptance, but who are not sure exactly where to begin. However, I would have liked to see more information about the sources she uses in writing the book, because she introduces a lot of new concepts and ideas from different people that I, personally, would have liked to explore further. Otherwise, it is a great book I'd recommend to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very motivating and challenging!, June 29, 2002
This review is from: Sacred Pampering Principles: An African-American Woman's Guide To Self-care And Inner Renewal (Hardcover)
(originally posted: July 30, 1998)

A funny and insightful beginning slowly becomes an enlightening mirror. Ms. Gandy encourages self examination that ultimately stimulates self renewal. I took a retreat one weekend to read this book and get it together.

I'm still working on applying some of the practical principles. My attitude is different now - not cocky but more confident and peaceful because Ms. Gandy made me realize that I can't take care of someone help without taking care of myself first. Although some of the principles are not my style, the overall theme and development definitely woke me up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Fabulous, May 11, 1999

I must admit that I actually STOLE this book from my mother, and I must say that I am glad that I did. This book really made me think about all the negative aspects of my life and how I needed to clean house. It also gave me some ideas of how to treat myself. Now I put aside time to treat myself. I also returned the copy I stole and bought my own. Thanx, Debrena. Hopefully one of these days I can attend one of your seminars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Something to Think About, April 2, 1999

ITCOMS read this book November 1998, the time women go into hyper-speed with the family and holidays and become stressed. We needed to hear "take so time out for yourself and you will have more time for others". We did not agree with everything in the books but found it contained many good and valid suggestions and ideas.

It is not a book to share, you need you own copy to "write in".
