Book Description

February 2000
Oceans and circumstances have forced families apart. For the banished French Acadians drifting in exile, the shore means safety though it is a safety at a terrible price. For the lonely British nobleman, the shore holds a single chance to secure his legacy. For Andrew and Catherine Harrow, the shore marks a tragic separation.

An extraordinary set of journeys awaits them all, each as intricate and perilous as the coastline itself. New beginnings are connected to all that has come before. And the past penetrates into what is yet to come. The common thread is a yearning to discover their identities in their families, in their communities, and in their God.

In this intimate historical epic, the heart-wrenching dilemmas of The Meeting Place come to rest on-

The Sacred Shore

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

This historical novel is the sequel to The Meeting Place by best-selling authors Oke and Bunn. The plot follows Anne Harrow and Nicole Robichaud, whose families voluntarily switched them at birth (read the first novel to find out why) and then lost touch with each other when the Acadian Robichauds were forced out of Nova Scotia by British edict. Now grown, the girls learn about their "real" parents, and a shaken Nicole (born Anne) embarks on a desperate search to find the Harrows and reaffirm her belief in herself with God's help. At the same time, Lord Charles Harrow, Nicole's uncle, arrives in Nova Scotia to end the estrangement with his brother, now a minister, and name his niece Anne (now Nicole) as his heir. Unfortunately, shallow characterizations and miraculous resolutions mar the plot, but the strength of the authors' popularity will fuel demand. Purchase accordingly.

About the Author

Janette Oke pioneered inspirational fiction and is the leading author in the category today. Love Comes Softly, Janette's first novel, has sold over 1 million copies. Janette is now the best selling author of over 40 books, 32 of which have been translated into fourteen languages. Janette receives fan mail from all over the world and answers each letter personally She received the 1992 President's Award from the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association for her significant contribution to Christian fiction, and has been awarded the coveted Gold Medallion Award for fiction. Janette and her husband, Edward, have four grown children and nine grandchildren and make their home in Canada.

A native North Carolinian who now lives abroad, T. DAVIS BUNN was recognized internationally as a consultant, lecturer, and speaker in the area of international finance and received invitations to address symposiums, conferences, and management meetings. His professional interests took a decided turn nearly eighteen years ago. Although he continued his career in international finance, he became a "closet" novelist. For nine years, he wrote with discipline and drive, never to have anything published. When one of his novels came to the attention of Bethany House Publishers, his status as an unpublished novelist changed. His first book, The Presence, was published in 1990 and quickly became a bestseller.

A prolific writer, he now has over twenty books in publication, including three with Janette Oke, a wonderful children's picture book called Princess Bella and the Red Velvet Hat, the heartwarming gift book The Quilt, and his latest, The Dream Voyagers, originally published under the pen name Thomas Locke.

"The novels I've had published by Bethany House are the direction I hope my future writing will take--captivating stories of intrigue, drama and faith, with compelling characters in an enjoyable contemporary fictional setting," says Bunn. "The emotional bonding that occurs with the reader in good fiction often gives the Christian message more direct meaning in the reader's life."

Prior to his work in international finance, Davis completed studies in psychology and economics at Wake Forest University. Fluent in three languages, he has traveled extensively in more than forty countries in Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Davis has also avocationally become a serious student of comparative religion, learning from Jewish rabbis, Buddhist monks, Muslim imams, Catholic priests, and Baptist ministers. Drawing on these experiences, Davis fills his books with colorful dialogue and richly textured settings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well done sequel, May 7, 2000
By A Customer
Okay...The truth?..The truth is that I wasn't sure the authors could write a sequel as good as "The Meeting Place." I was wrong! They did an outstanding job of resolving the questions left in the first book. I love this series, and I hope it is true that there is a third book coming out. I would definitely reccomend reading the books in order. I have bought two copies and I keep sending them to everyone I think would like them.!

5.0 out of 5 stars An even better sequel to The Meeting Place, October 2, 2000
My review of The Meeting Place said that it was the best I've read by Oke and Bunn; I was wrong! The Sacred Shore is now the best I've read by this team. The Sacred Shore picks up many years after The Meeting Place leaves off; Louisa and Henri are now settled in Louisiana with many other ousted Acadians, and Catherine and Andrew are now living the quiet life of a minister. Neither can forget the other, however, and their lives finally intersect again after many, many events, including the unexpected arrival of Andrew's estranged brother from England and the revelation of Louisa and Henri to their daughter of her birth. You will not want to quit reading The Sacred Shore until the end, and you will then begin anxiously awaiting the sequel!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sacred Shore, May 30, 2000
I was very pleased with the way the book took us right into the world of Nicole and Anne. I enjoyed this book for its constant reminders of letting God lead you in your everyday life. I am hoping for a 3rd book.
